CT State taxes...really?
so CT has been having a problem with payroll taxes all year. I don't know the exact details but from what I've been told if you normally work a consistent amount of hours there is no problem but if all of a sudden you work over time, then "the system" thinks that is what you've made all year and takes out to accomodate for the back taxes.
this happened to me this week. I normally work around 1.75hrs OT a week. Last week I worked 5hrs OT. I knew about the tax situation and I figured that they would take all of my over time. Well not only did they take all of the over time but they took an additional $125 out.
After all of my deductions I usually get about $155 deposited into my checking account for spending money. This is mainly my gas and groceries and usually one "other" thing. This week $25.69 was deposited. Now keep in mind, I word 5hrs OT! Is that crazy or what? I emailed my payroll person and she said I can fill out a form to get a lump sum next week. Ugh, well fine but that doesn't help me this week.
At first I totally panicked, I mean that's not even a tank of gas! but I added up my bills, looked at my ING accounts and realize that I can transfer a few dollars to get me through the week and still be able to pay my bills at the end of the month.
a couple of things going for me - I don't live paycheck to paycheck and I do have money to transfer. I just think of so many people that would not be in the same situation as me if this were to happen to them. For me its an inconvenience, for others, it could mean the difference between gas in the car or food on the table.Judy

How frustrating to work more and get paid less! I hope it gets straightened out quickly and doesn't keep happening!!
Here they decided to reduce the standard deduction by 60% in November, and to make it retroactive for the whole year. So paycheck withholding went up by like 500% of something crazy like that. It's nuts. But at least here we have the excuse that the country is completely imploding. My Brand-New Blog: http://homeingreece.wordpress.com

~That is ridiculous! They're basically penalizing you with red tape and holding your money hostage because you worked more? They need to fix that ASAP. That's some bad programming.
