I must have an exceptionally nice K-Mart, because even my sister comments on how much she likes to go there when she house-sits for me. It, too, is almost empty, with a Wal-Mart about a mile away, but it is SO much nicer. I have purchased things there that are cheap, and some that are not so cheap. I find the old adage is true: you get what you pay for. Wal-Mart has manufacturers trying to save so much money, to stay competitive, that you are getting about half the material you used to get, and it is probably coming from some child slave shop in Asia. But, hey, it's only $3, so must be a deal, right? And so what that you have to toss it after only a few washings, because it falls apart! It is only $3, so you can buy a new one! No, thank you.

This kind of captures exactly what I think is wrong with us, as a society. No one wants to pay for high quality and great service, so we shop at places that give us neither, until the companies that try to do it right finally give up and either conform to the herd mentality or shut their doors, and then we complain about crappy things are now and how good they USED to be.

I agree. Sears is a downer.
Kmart is a shell of what it used to be and doesn't appear to do anything to make themselves more appealing to customers.
Both are so backwards.
I only go to Sears to return stuff I ordered from Lands End that didn't work. I will be buying a new lawnmower from them in the Spring.
I only go to Kmart to buy a particular type of tea towel that I can't find elsewhere. Other than that, I never set foot in either.
