8 states raise minimum wage starting next week ( jan 1)
Saw this today
"While economists and policy makers on the left and the right continue to disagree about the impact of a higher minimum wage on jobs and the economy, eight states will be putting into effect minimum wage hikes as of Jan. 1, boosting the incomes of some 1.4 million low-wage workers in Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Montana, Ohio, Oregon, Vermont and Washington. I hope this increase in wages makes it easier for people to find housing in those areas.

Shoot, not my state. My husband is capped out in his job code. He won't get any more raises unless minimum wage goes up. I knew this was coming when Wal-Mart implemented the level pay program.

I'm glad people making minimum wage will make more money. On the other hand, it's just an indication of inflation, and I look forward to increasing costs. But, hey, once minimum wage earners can't afford those increased costs, minimum wage will go up again!

Everytime they raised the minimum wage here, cities raised the property taxes & utilies thinking that now people will have more money to cover the increases....gggrr...its just like if the company gives dh a raise, they also raise the insurance rates...so no one is really getting more money in their pockets....its a lie and false hope.

A few years back they started the pay level. We have I think 7 levels of pay. Each level has a pay cap. My husband is on level 1, after 23 years he has met the cap. I'm on level 4 so I have a few years to go before I cap out. Anyhow once you meet the cap you get no more raises. You still get yearly evaluations. The problem is you can't find that many full time positions. The only thing they have offered him is overnights. They want him to give up his FT day position. So he's stuck with no more raises. I work 7-4 day so it would be foolish to take an overnight position. Another thing Wal-Mart does that we just have to bear and grin it.

I think its a chicken/egg type situation. Quantitative easing is how the federal reserve releases money out into then wild, and they do this knowing that it will lead to more dollars chasing the same amount of goods (that is, inflation.) Its just one way they cause inflation. Our monetary policy involves target inflation rates. They cause inflation intentionally because then consider it to be good for economic growth. They also realize that they are destroying the value of your property and discouraging savings, but that's what you might call acceptable losses.
So, it sucks that prices will go up, but allow me to direct your attention to the man behind the curtain. If our monetary policy didn't involve intentionally creating inflation, the issue of minimum wage increase might not even be up for discussion. We all got ten fingers so we might as not be stingy with the finger pointing.~Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.~
