How long do spices last?
I need to clean my spice cabinet out. I know i have tons that have no dates. That spices still have a good smell but not sure if they will hold its true spice flavor or what they are used for during cooking. Like my cream of tarter i know i have had for a few years but have no date. I hate to pitch that stuff is like $3+ but also hate to use it in a batch of cookies and not have it turn out and everything gets wasted. Any tips of a website? Please and Thank you.

Other then in Cinnamon ,its like all spice, dill, paprika, mustard seed, all of them lol. Back in 1998 a local store was closing and got a load of spices in the tin cans for like 50 cents each the a little old lady gave me a huge box of older spices they were still full. This is when it was stamped in blue ink and said .25 cents its Mccomrmik they are vintage white tin cans with roosters. If anything i will keep them for decor on a shelf.

Ground allspice is often used in baking, like cinnamon, and sometimes on meats as part of a rub mixture. Whole allspice can be put in tea or cider to flavor it.
Dill often flavors pickles and dip but it is also good in bread, mixed with butter to put on bread, or used in salad dressings.
Paprika is ground sweet pepper. I use it in chili, vegetable soup, hummus and all kinds of things. Any place you use chili powder or cayenne you can add paprika for enhanced pepper flavor without heat. It's also good on popcorn.
Mustard seed is also used in marinades, and it is often added to vegetable dishes where cabbage and greens are prominent. It's one of the things that come in the spice packet with corned beef. You can also grind it to powder to make mustard for your sandwiches.

No tips on any specific web.......
My spices last until I use them all.........
don't care
what the pro's say........
I have experimented by just reading on the side/back of the container and see what they rec. them for........I love my spices and refuse to toss them just because they have a 'little age' on them............

I have some older spices and I use them/haven't noticed a problem. I'm sure that everything would taste better if our spices were always fresh herbs or from brand new bottles of dried spices - but how much spice does one need to use? Spices, IMO, just last a long time.
