yipee gas and electric down :)
my monthly payment budget for gas ane electric went down over 50$ a month .
amazing what turning off lights Tvs etc when not in that room ; turning down heat/ ac when no one is home can do
oh and i have known that all my life it was convincing my 20 yo dd who moved out mid june of that fact . she was home after i left for work and came in later at night after we were asleep and we could tell her till we were blue in the face to do those things and it didnt change it just would= an argument . so i gave u a year or so ago just to decrease my stress which would set off my FMS is i let it upset me .
she is very lucky though that her heat and electric are included in rent but since its her roommates dads place they rent she is careful now she is in her own place .*~Debbi~*

My 19 yr-old left in November and our electric bill dropped almost $200 (bi-monthly). Some of that is wood stove heating, most of it is the reduction in (1/2 hour per day) showers.

Yea! Congratulations. Once our Christmas decorations come down i need to get on my kids to turn things off. I want to have a lower electric bill.

They don't realize how much money they suck up. When we moved we told my DD and her husband that is they wanted to move with us they had to come up with $200 a month in rent (they are both college students working part time jobs.) They thought that was crazy so they moved in with his parents. Crazy, huh? how come my monthly expenses (food, utilities) went down way more than $200 huh?

There are ways to enforce shorter showers. I haven't used them, but it seems like a logical solution.
Shower Manager - Shower Timer - Stops Long Showering
If the savings is as much as you're saying, they would pay for themselves in no time.

to be honest all that shower thing would do is spur huge fights with my older dd the yelling that she wasnt done and what caused her to need to shower longer would send my fibro into such a flare i would need a week of hot baths to just survive the pain and aches. which would cost more in the long run .
for me its a stubborn personality at the narcissistic stage in her life issue with my dd.
she would get out of the shower- drip all over the house wait 5 min and get back in and do it a few times just to " win" in the situation .
if you have the willingness to be compliant but just not the ability to keep track that would work for some i guess little kids etc but not much for a stubborn adult.*~Debbi~*

~Our utility bills are down 25% from last year. I attributed that to a cooler summer and warmer winter so far than the year before since we're not doing anything differently.
We also switched energy providers twice last year. Have you done that yet RN? It cold save you some more $! Plus they give you gift cards or bill credits for switching.
