    Default Have you noticed?

I have a friend whose check card was used at a utility company's website to pay a bill recently and honestly it seems like I have had several friends lately have their account info swiped. Its honestly a little scary to me. A lot of local banks here and I am sure elsewhere put a limit on the amount you can use your check card for in a single day to protect people. It can be raised for a day if you call and ask but I have a friend that complains that she has to ask permission to use her money! I think I want to get rid of my check card. Too much hassle!

Only had a problem once with my card. The bank notified me since someone tried to make a purchase first using $1 withdrawl then a small $20 purchase. Went to the bank and they gave me a new card and replaced the funds withdrawn. When I pay online I just make sure the site is secure.

me too but turns out my friends checking account number was used to pay a bill online and not her check card! She had to close the account and open a new one!

that sounds more like someone who was somewhere that she had her checkbook, be it someone with access, at home, or someone at her work if she carries her checkbook with her in her purse.

If you pay online and look for the 'https' at the start of the webpage, you should be fine. the 's' means secure. Only pay through the website after you've typed it in and gone there directly, NEVER through an email link. Nothing is 100% secure....someone could steal your check you send out and get your checking account info that way, it's all slightly risky.
