Default my new laptop isnt working right

I finally got a new laptop for Christmas. I have had it all of a few weeks and it has been acting crazy for about a week and a half. I thought maybe I might have been doing something to cause the problem but I really havent done anything on it but visit FV! Called Dell tech support and told them what was going on. When I turn the power button it clicks over and over like its trying to come on but can take a few minutes to actually come on. When it does finally come on it gives an error message and wants to go into repair mode or something. DD got one identical and has no trouble. In fact we turned them on side by side and she shut hers down and restarted before mine ever came on! Dell is supposed to call back today so it looks like I will be sending it in, boo!

Debbie that is good to know! I am certain it has to be defective since DDs works fine. I am going on a retreat in a little over a week and was hoping to take it so I could skype with the kids before bed but we shall see!

Good luck in finding the problem and getting it fixed....

You didn't need to say any more than it was a Dell.............

and good luck working with them...........I/they went to the BBB two times when I owned my Dell...........wouldn't have another one.

But.........within two days of filing with the BBB I had a phone call.....................so it must help!

They called me today to see if our troubleshooting from yesterday worked. I told them I really felt like there was still something wrong. They offered to do an onsite repair but with my schedule I told them Id rather send it in so I should get the box in 2 days to send it back. They said at the least they would replace the power button and mother board but would also check the rest of the components to make sure I didnt have anymore trouble. So heres to hoping it is back soon!

I bought a Toshiba at Walmart back in the summer. Brought it home and tried to use it. It would come on and be on for about 3 minutes, then just shut off. It also didn't show that the battery was charging. I didn't even fool with having anyone fix it. I took it back to Walmart and got my money back the next day. I bought a HP at Best Buy in Sept and have had no problems with it so far! Good luck on getting yours fixed! I hope they fix it quickly!

What error were you getting? Looks like a problem with the hard drive. IMHO.

Gabe, I really dont know much about computers but it seems like I get error messages regarding improper start up and shut downs more than anything. I assume they are related to the fact that the computer wont come on half the time but hopefully it will be good as new soon! I think its just a bummer to have to send in a brand new computer for repair!

showed your post to hubby and he says it sounds like a hard drive failure issue. Hope they get it fixed up for you soon. If it were me, I'd tell them that since it was barely used, I'd much rather have a new one, thank you.
