Default What food do you crave that you can't afford?

It has been so long since we had any beef......... real beef...not just hamburger. Sunday I went to the store and found a nice roast that I could afford, and fixed that for supper........Wow. Did it ever taste good... I savored every bite, and still have some for leftovers.

Also, this week I found bacon for $2.45 a package, and bought 2. It's been almost a year since we had bacon.

    What have you been craving?

Fresh oysters. LOVE them. Can't afford them, except on very special occasions.

We don't really eat a lot of expensive foods here. Sometimes I'd like a nice NY strip steak and won't pay the price for them except in summer when they are on sale. Then it's only maybe twice a summer.

We love bacon and sausage but I've been lucky that the stores here run both on sale a lot. I only buy when on sale and I stock up and freeze.

Sometimes I'd like to go out to a nice sit down restaurant. Something with a big ole buffet LOL. But there are four of us and it would cost a fortune!

And at times I'd like to order Pizza Hut pizza. I know you can get them for 10.00 but feeding three adults and a teenage boy who eats enough for four people, I always settle for Little Caesars 5.00 ones LOL.

Sushi, definitely sushi. There are lots of things I love that aren't in our budget (goat cheese, arugula, spinach, all kinds of seafood, on and on), but the thing I crave the most is sushi.

Someday, we will be able to afford to go out for sushi again, and that will make me very happy.

Today I was looking at the beef roasts thinking I could cut it up to make a beef stew. Just could not bring myself to shelling out the money. So I will be looking at the meat section again when it is the end of the month and hopefully there will be some manager's specials.

I also crave lobster. Usually I will wait until the summer time and they are on sale.

For those craving beef I have a suggestion. Our Walmart marks their meat down each day and sometimes you can get good deals on it. At the one I shop at you have to get there pretty early in the morning to get it but it might be an option. I know people are really opposed to shopping at Walmart so I apologize for this suggestion if that's the case

I would say beef too. I do ground meat, and still buy roast occasionally when it's on sale, the sale price being what I have refused to pay even on sale a year ago, but I only make soup with it. A meaty soup, but oh, for a real roast! I just won't do it.

Fresh fruit, especially berries. I buy small apples, but rarely anything else. Even during the summer, I didn't buy as much as I usually do.

Romaine lettuce is getting very expensive too, but I need to eat salads, so I keep buying it. But last night the heads were the smallest I have ever seen. I couldn't bring myself to buy two, so I picked up a head of iceberg to go with it.

Well I know hubby would say BACON! He loves bacon and I haven't bought it in at least two years. For myself I'd say salmon, seafood, and certain fruits. Oh and Diet Coke! I miss that one the most but I gave it up when the price went up.

That's easy; lobster. Not the kind you boil yourself, the sit-in-a-restaurant and have a baked stuffed lobster *sigh*.

I'm confused about the bacon. We don't eat pork so we get turkey of beef here but there are always sales matching my coupons so I get about 4 packs a month of bacon and about 8 packages sausages as well as 4 boxes of breakfast sausage patties or links.

I usually always have a coupon but turkey bacon is really $2.50 to $2.75 here on average beef is around $3.00 to $3.75.

Still cheaper than hamburgers and more economical to make a blt meal than a hamburger meal.

I only but bacon on sale. I refuse to pay 6.99 a pound.

I refuse to buy crab, lobster etc as it is crazy high.

I have found with beef lately it is sometimes cheaper to buy steak or roast over ground beef. That is crazy!

I've been finding bacon for 2.00-2.50 a pack here. Not as cheap as it used to be for sure but still not so high that I won't buy it. We like it on weekends when everyone is home. I buy Jimmy Dean sausage rolls for 2.00-2.50 on sale also if I want to slice and fry it. For making gravy I buy whatever is on sale the very cheapest.

I also buy the Banquet links when they are on sale cheap. They are great on busy mornings and the 2 yr I keep LOVES them! They are good for camping too!
