If you freeze the yogurt it's not as handy to grab for a snack. Then just put it in the fridge with your lunch the night before.

Seems like everyone I've known throughout life cheats on diabetes restrictions! My Dad always felt "this once won't hurt" hah-and also "life is short"....

My husband will polish off a whole bag of Ruffles in one sitting. He favors flavored chips, I favor regular. So I hide the Ruffles & leave his on top of the frig...

(Polishing off a whole bag of Ruffles-or any snack-isn't as much as it used to be but still....everything keeps shrinking in size and we're not supposed to notice. A pound isn't even a pound anymore.)

I am the widow of a diabetic who did not take care of his health. Oh, the stories I could tell... It is a horrible horrible way to go.

In hindsight, I see now that there was nothing I could say or do that would change his behavior, and believe me I tried. The problem was that he was not the only affected by it. The whole family was miserable for years as he slowly died (eating candy and junk food all the way to the grave).

I don't have any advice, just the cautionary tale.

Your hubby is an adult and as an adult he is ultimately the one responsible for his own health. I don't agree that you should do without things you enjoy because of his health issue(s).

My dh has high cholesterol and he (at his age) still buys a crap ton of junk...puts it in his drawers and then munches on it in the middle of the night. Drives me crazy!!!! I told him he was endangering his own health and should stop...but, he still chooses to do it. I do still tend to watch what I fix for dinner but, when it comes to his snacking he's a big boy.

On the other hand I love potato chips (hubby calls them C-hips LOL) and while he may eat a few occasionally he's not all that fond of chips. Chocolate is his hangup....

He does that 'cause the chips are better! LOL! Dh has diabetes and I caught him red-handed going into the candy bar stash I keep for myself...cough, cough, er...I meant, the kids. I thought the pile was getting smaller, but wasn't totally sure until I caught him a couple of days ago with a Reese's in his pocket!

Valerian, I know it's not funny but LOL..."caught him red-handed"...was he embarrassed?

This certainly is a hot topic, I think lots of us have sneaking husbands or relatives LOL & we've been keeping it inside so long we're just bursting at the chip bag seams!!

Speaking of bursting seams, besides shrinking grocery containers we aren't supposed to notice, many containers/bags are being made thinner & thinner as time goes on. I actually had a chip bag that ripped at the seam before it was intentionally opened. Had to put a pilece of duct tape on it like some icky garage tool repair....

Here's a "why back in my day": When I was little, mid-50's, Mom got cottage cheese in little tin cups-actually useable drinking glasses. I'd bet there were a whole lot of other foods put in sturdy reuseable containers, I just don't remember/know about it. I do remember milk delivered to the front porch in glass bottles!
Maybe there should be a thread on this if there isn't, or maybe it's not all that interesting?

My hubby has no restraint when I leave my fun sized M& M's in his sight. I allow myself to have one pack every other day or so. When I see them on sale, I buy several bags, thinking I will save money by not hitting the candy machine at work, plus the tiny bag is a much more reasonable portion for me. He messes with my plan when he snarfs down my snacks. That bugs me. When I ask him if he wants something from the store, He could just say, bring home M&M's instead of eating mine.
So when I read your post, I immediately thought of the annoyance rather than the health issues. I have explained to him why I don't want him to eat them & he is doing better, but I still hide them!
