Default Got the fright of my life last night

Was sleeping well, when suddenly our fire alarm went off at
    2.30 am.
Our alarm is so loud that you could almost become deaf hearing it in close proximity so we just about literally jumped out of bed.

We have the same alarm as for burglars but instead of it being a constant sound it is intermittent for fire.

Hubby checked downstairs since there was no smoke anywhere and I checked the 2 upstairs floors - nothing.

Our daughter woke up, also scared, but we couldn't find anything at all.

Frightened the s... out of me.

Do you know how hard it is to fall back asleep after being wakened by something like that - VERY hard!!!!

I phoned the alarm company right away this morning and they are coming by later to check everything.

My daughter found this extremely scary since we will be away for a few days to Scotland to visit my parents as of Saturday and she will be alone in the house.

Is the alarm also set for carbon monoxide, the silent killer? If you have gas coming into the house by way of stove, heating or hot water heater you could have a leak.

Ours went nuts one night and we sat outside(it was warm) until after midnight and had the gas company check and sure enough it was the flu to the hot water heater needed replacing. We could have slept until death without the alarm.

I always thought it was a waste of money each month but no more!
