If they've cancelled all the school buses, how do they expect children to get to school?

I always use my best judgement with things like this. I have kept my kids home on days when my dh would come home from work at 6:45 and tell me the roads were slick. I kept them home one day when we were under a high wind warning and they were calling for trees and power lines down, etc. Dd was in high school and the bus traveled down a narrow, one lane road with trees lining both sides most of the way. I didn't want her stuck on the bus if a tree fell and they couldn't get through or turn around.
I went to school and picked them up early one time because my area was flooding and it was still pouring the rain. I wanted them home with me, not stuck at school for hours or possibly over night.
With the ice you have I think keeping her home was the right thing to do! Even if you don't fall a car could slide into you, branches can fall when loaded down with ice, etc.S

They sometimes cancel buses here but leave schools open, although not as often as they used to. The official policy from our school board is that parents always have the final decision when it comes to their own child's safety. So, if I think the weather conditions are too dangerous for my child to be in school, then it is my right to keep them home. They also can not be penalized for work missed due to inclement weather.
Your school board should have their policies posted on their website.

So it is a good thing I kept her home because we lost power at about 2pm and didn't get it back until 8pm. It was raining pretty hard this morning and all of last night and turned to snow very fast this morning in about 20 mins we probably have an inch of snow all ready.
