Default it's turning into quite a year - already!

    - Just before the end of the year, the brakes on my car had to be replaced (bill came in beginning of the year).

    - Our daughter went to see an orthopedic surgeon for her knee and we heard today that she will be operated on Feb 6th and will be on crutches for at least 2 weeks but will have a recovery time (before she can play sports again) of around 6 months. (Her meniscus and cruciate ligaments are badly damaged.) I'll have to drive her everywhere (more gas for the car). Don't even want to think of the pain that she will be in (UGH! poor kid).

    - Our health insurance premium went up drastically.

    - We really did have to go to Scotland to see my parents (altogether it was around $ 1,500).

    - Our (fire) alarm system woke us up in the middle of the night - thank goodness there was no fire but the system had to have an upgrade (the bill should come in any day now - expect it to be around $500).

It is now January 20th - if this is an indication of how the year is going to go then

Maybe you'll get lucky and January will be the month you get hit...and the rest of the year will be smooth sailing.

On the upside your car could have had an issue that couldn't have been fixed. Your daughter could have something wrong, that surgery wouldn't fix. You could not have any health insurance, which would make the situation with your daughter rougher. You have parents to go and see, no matter the circumstances. Your alarm system did go haywire letting you know there was an issue. If it hadn't and you had, had a real fire...well that would have been horrifying.

I always try to find the upside to everything that happens, glass 1/2 full kind of gal I guess . Best of luck to your daughter with her surgery and here's hoping the rest of the year is nicer to you.

Sorry to hear about the knee. I hope everything goes well.
It does sound like you've had a trying start?
For us too. DS didn't make the cut grade wise and I had to bring him home (7-8hrs this way and that) loaded w/ junk in my old van. Still arguing w/ them about exit fees and laptops and deposits,Dh turned 50 and is grousy,DH got a bad reveiw along w/ most of the company so they could skip the bonuses and raises,And he is fighting an infection in his bad leg! Not to mention all the exploding costs over here! 2012 is going to require a SADDLE because it will some ride!

    Dutchie.

I just found how that January 2012 is going to cost us a fortune as well...can we say 'adding a sinking fund for Jan 2013'? We're taking the hit and I'm not definitely not letting it hit us this hard next year.
