Cirrhosis Of The Liver
My father was diagnosed with Cirrhosis of the liver last summer. It was a result of the medication that he had been taking for his diabetes. Anyway, he had to have the varicose veins in his esophagus banded last year...now he has fluid building up in his abdomen (but he's not in any pain). I realize that he is in the last stages of this disease. Has anyone here had a loved one with Cirrhosis...and how long did they live after they started developing fluid....and what can I expect? Thanks for all the information

My bil has been living with cirrohsis for about 1 1/2 years now...and another genetic liver disease as well.
Hard to say what someone's life span will be since we are all different. Sorry you and your family are having to go through this I know how hard it is on my sis, bil and their kids. ((((HUGS)))))"Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans." John Lennon

I am so sorry to hear about your father's cirrhosis. That is terrible.
My mother got cirrhosis because she got hepatitis from (she thought) a restaurant. She had gone jaundice when it was discovered and then 15 years went by and she never did anything to treat it and had no problems. Then she started having back pain and went to the doctor and voila cirrhosis. They put her on some kind of medication (I really can't remember what, it's been 10 years) for her liver which was a blood thinner. She also had an aneyurism in her brain and the medication caused it to rupture two months later and she died after brain surgery. All the women in her family had anyeurisms and some of the men too and my father's mother went of a brain aneyurism.
Guess I know how I'm going.
I hope your father remains comfortable and in good spirits.
