Default Do you use a "cutter" for your coupons?

So I was pretty excited yesterday we went to the swap meet and I got a guillotine style cutter for $3. I tried to use it last night and it seemed to rip them at the end of the cut. If you use this one can you give me any tips?

I'm going to post a link about 'gang cutting' coupons.

An informative read, please think twice about bulk-cutting your coupons, the store may not take them as they may not get reimbursed.

Interesting article but slightly annoying as 1) many coupons now limit how many you can use per trip/transacion (4 seems to be a common limit) and 2) in this day and age, many of us DO buy multiple coupons and 'gang cut' legitimately purchased coupons. Gggrrr...just more system abusers making harder for the rest of us! I only use scissors, not a paper cutter, so i have no advice how to fix the issue you're having.

Thank for the read.It makes sense...just a bit...frustrating I guess. Those individual cutting of 10 inserts each week...hard on my rheumatoid arthritis hands sometimes. I was even trying 1 page not gang cutting and having some tearing at times.
    Thank you

Coupons are printed on awfully thin paper. It's unlikely you're going to get a perfectly clean cut every time, since the paper is going to fold under the blade a bit and tear. I ran into this problem a lot doing art projects in school. A rolling blade, kind of like a pizza cutter, might work better.

No, we do not use one. We use scissors.

Eureka! I think I've got it- your blade needs sharpening, it's dull. Now how you take it off and sharpen it- that I do not know.

How about backing the coupons with a heavier stock scrap paper?
Maybe use a rotary cutter if scissors are out? A Scotch gift wrap cutter might work well for cutting one at a time.

I have one of those but I only use it when I am scrapbooking. For the coupons I just use good o'l fashioned scissors. Granted I am only cutting one at a time. I don't put all like pages of coupons together the way you would have to to cut more than one at a time. The most inserts I have of each kind are three so it is not big deal.

The blade is dull on the paper cutter. I don't know how or if it can be sharpened.

Mine are usually printed on perforated paper so its easy to tear apart after folding. Otherwise I just use plain old kitchen scissors. I do not coupon that often though as there are not enough available that I deem 'worth it'. (ie real food vs processed stuff)

try cutting through folded sheets of foil with the blade. that;s how I sharpen my scrapbook cutter.....

totally annoying article. I get 6 inserts every week delivered to my house. If I used this type of cutter, it would be for my own use... not "gang cutting". I don't appreciate the insinuation that those of us that buy mulitiple set of papers for our own use are somehow doing something wrong...

The foil idea should work...you could also try using a whetstone (sp). My husband uses one of those to sharpen everything we own.

The article writer should watch "Extreme Couponing"...talk about a crapton of coupons LOL.
