Default Filed my taxes and got a bonus!

I filed my taxes today and I am so excited! I have literally been scrapping by for the last few weeks, even told my boss I was going to have to apply for food stamps . Friday when we had to submit our timecards we also had to submit our bonus sheets, which mine was $0. My boss was off that day but came in for a meeting we had scheduled with my department, while she was there she showed me an email that her boss had sent her regarding the pay raise she put in for me when my review was done back in November and had not been aproved yet. Well, it hasn't been approved yet because she is requesting about a 30% raise for me which takes an act of congress to get approved. This email said that her boss was putting together a "Promotion" for me and that he needed my boss to come up with a new title for my "new" position. I won't actually get a promotion, but in order to approve such a huge raise they have to put it in as a promotion, which is fine with me So...YAY,more money boo I am still waiting for my raise.

About 2 hours after my boss left the office my office manager calls me to her office and hands me a revised bonus sheet that she need me to sign....my boss had changed my $0 bonus to $750!!! YAY, I LOVE MY BOSS!!!

Today I got my W2 and I filed my taxes within an hour of getting it..... drumroll please...... we are getting back $4,816!!! I did e-file with direct deposit on TurboTax.com and it should be deposited in my account on appx Feb 8th.

I am in despreate need of a new cell phone due to mine deciding to shut off whenever it wants to. I am also going to get DH a riding mower (have been putting it off for a few years now), he needs it because with his heart condition it is too much for him to push mow our yard. Then I will pay a couple payments ahead on my van and the rest.... well... it's all going into my savings account! This will fund my EF and then some! YAY!!

Good for you. Seems that when you feel you are hitting the bottom something good comes your way and picks you back up.

~That's a great bonus! Congrats on that! Your boss sounds fantastic. Wish there were more like that!
Have you considered hiring a neighborhood kid or friend's kid to mow your yard? The average new price for a riding lawn mower is $1600. At $20-30 every two weeks for a kid, that's about 6 years worth of cuts. You could also invest a small amount of money on "permaculture". That's less lawn and more low maintenance plants, paths, and rocks. Price it out before you commit to a huge lawn mower purchase, especially since your raise hasn't been approved yet. Anything less than 3 full months of expenses in your EF is reason enough to delay making such a big purchase, especially since you just felt tight enough to apply for assistance.~

    cmu,

That is EXCELLENT re: the bonus!!

That is great re your tax return, but have you thought about changing your deductions this year, so you keep a little more of your money, rather than loaning it to the gov't interest-free for a year? I keep tweaking mine every year, trying to keep it as close to zero as possible. Last year, I had it down to just a couple of hundred back. Haven't finished my taxes for this year yet, but it looks like around $400.

Sounds like a nice place to work, with people who actually care about you. That's not easy to find.

I agree with both of the above posters. Something to think about.

Congratulations on getting a raise and a bonus!

Question: do you really need a new cell phone? Or will a new battery do? Maybe from a cell phone that your IT department has? That's where I got my 'new' free battery from, and it's still working perfectly.

That's fantastic. I am up for my review this week - expect it to be good and get a raise. Am also hoping for a bonus. I also filed my taxes - not getting back as much as you, but still decent! I'll take it!
