Forgot to add...If you go on Facebook to their page and click like you can print out a $5 off coupon. Look to the left hand column.

I wasn't knocking ALL Save A Lots...like I said, I'm sure not all of them are the same. A new one did open up closer to us than the somewhat dirty one further away. I haven't been in that one. It might be a whole different ballgame.

    Unhappy

There's a family in our area that own several stores including Shop N Save and Save A Lot. These folks have a bad reputation for selling rotten meat. You know, pink on the outside, gangrene on the inside. I've been burnt a few times before I learned. So, for that reason, I won't buy meat at the local Save A Lot or Shop N Save, because that family owns them. But other Save A Lot stores may be fine for meat.

Years ago sav-a-lot was a life saver for me. I would get my monthly shopping done for cheap. This was when the prices were much lower than they are now. I probably will be worth you while to atleast go and take a look. Especially when they first open since they will have much lower prices to get people in the store on some items. I would go to the store more often if I didn't have to worry about how to get there.

I liked the one where I use to live but haven't checked this one out yet...They are different in different locations..The one that I use to shop at a lot cut there own meat right in the store and it was good..I knew the guy who run it so got a lot of good buys..There fresh produce was always better than the chain stores there too..

I think the store is like the Dollar General for food--you just have to watch sizes, brands and try them. I have shopped at one near me but a little off my usual path. Its worth investigating and for me--going a little out of my way !! Thanks for reminding me of it !

cool beans your getting a SAL
I have two near me and the one I go to most (haven't been in about 3 mths so it may be a new thing where they no longer provide bags for shoppers will have to ck it out) has good deals on meat (talk to the meat manager find out when they take delivery of their beef pork etc). the one i use it's wed so I try to shop on Thursdays... monday is 'rotten meat' day (that is to honor my nannie who has passed that was her favorite term for marked down meat section in the grocery store lol) so if you find out when they mark down that could save you money... .my store offers pick 5's on frozen meats/veggies/chicken toes (ds calls the small chicken sticks that)5/$20.
Haggis House Chili .99- very good w/bean the no bean resembles cat vomit last time i got the w/bean it was 1.29
Wylewood -whole kernal and creamed corn .69 per can both have good taste IMHO
Diane's tomato: paste, sauce, diced, whole all are great and I get flats of each when I can.
wylewood- turnip greens, collard greens, blackeyed peas, pinto, northern, good- kidney beans the dark ones sometimes feel like they aren't cooked long enough but if your making soup or chili then they are fine.
the jade dragon soy sauce is a bit strong but if you dilute it down with a bit of water to suit your tastebud's it's fine i like it better than walmart's 'GV brand'.
same goes for their hot sauce, jelly, mustard, ketchup (I add a tsp of white vinegar to their brand kurtz and I get a similar taste like heinz for less) the canned fruits Liberty gold brand can't go wrong with any you choose IF you like canned fruit. their brand of crackers aren't very good but their round buttery (ritz) last no time around my two- the oyster crackers are great for making seasoned 'snack bites'. their brand of cooking oils and 'spray' are ok, I love their chocolate chips, coconut (so moist and fresh tasting'
the spices /cant remember the brand name but use it I like what SAL offers better than mccormicks, spice island brands, the ginger evans mixes are ok if you add just a little extract liquid to the recipe.
bar s hotdogs, bologna, turkey, ham - we love the hot dogs better than Oscar Meyers brand, the cereals according to the children are better tasting than 'honeycombs, cheerios, frosted flakes, fruit loops' their pasta brands for me leaves something to be desired as the spaghetti gets gummy when it's cooked,
and the namebrand items they offer are cheaper there.
I just hate to see what the prices are now as the last time I got canned goods there the checker said they were looking at a 23% price increase. but I can still come out cheaper buy from SAL than going to my local store- well here's wishing you a great shopping discovery adventure when the SAL opens in your area.
