I've only went once to the one closest here. I know not all of them are the same but ours was not impressive. While not exactly "dirty" it was definitely not overly clean. Dinghy.
Most of there stuff isn't brand name. That's why you didn't recognize the names. Kind of like Aldis.
Don't forget to take your own bags. They don't provide them.Bank of America is THE godfather of Hell with Wells Fargo running neck and neck. When the world ends the only things that will be left are cockroaches, Walmart, Wells Fargo and Bank of America. Not necessarily in that order. The order remains to be seen.

Personally, I don't like their store brand canned vegetables. Around here our Save-a-lot's meat is the same as the major grocery store just down the road from them and it's good and reasonable when it comes to price.
I would recommend our local Save-a-lot to anybody."Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans." John Lennon

I do not like their off brand diet cola. Even tho I will drink others. I love their frozen ground turkey, made by Butterball & everything else. Good store.

Ours is a mix of off brand and name brand as well. And they do provide bags and bag your groceries for you here. When they first opened about 16 years ago they provided bags but you had to bag your own.
The only thing I can think of that I bought there and didn't like was canned kidney beans. They were very hard, almost like they were undercooked.S

I love our SaveALot and buy the majority of our groceries there. Its much cheaper on most things than any other stores around here except maybe the occasional sale on canned goods. Its clean and well managed. Very little have I bought there have I not liked as far as food. I don't care for their version of aluminum foil or toilet paper.

I went to Sav-a-lot once.
I agree with the poster who said it wasn't the cleanest. They did provide bags @ mine but you had to take your cart to a counter and bag your own savings.
Mostly their brand of items. Their dish soap is terrible. You have to use like 3x the regular amount it still isn't enough.
It was ok. Pretty good savings for a bunch of items that I had no idea if I'd like or not. I bought a bunch of ground turkey for dog food and it ended up being much higher fat content then I wanted but it was only $1 per pound.
Their spices are REALLY cheap.
I wouldn't go back bc it's just too darn far.

Myfamily loves there pop but not cola one. we love graham crackers and a majoity of there products. out has a good meat dept and produce. Just check it and buy what u think u would use to see if u like it or not...oh there polish sausage sucks..

Our store is new and clean. The meats are a real bargain. Produce is not. Bread, block cheeses and milk are always the cheapest there for us. Here it's a combination of name brand and generics. Here you have to buy their bags, but we usually just use their leftover boxes and box what we buy. I like the store and am happy we have one nearby. Aldi is in another city and I won't make a special trip there.

At our Save-a-Lot you can choose to bring your own bags, use boxes the have under the counter for free, or you can buy bags from them. It's $0.03 for a small plastic bag, $0.05 for a paper bag, and $0.10 for a large plastic bag. Some Save-a-Lots also sell those reusable tote bags for around $1.00, but I haven't noticed if ours does or not because we bring our own plastic bags and use the boxes.
Our store isn't filthy, but it could be cleaner. Probably about as clean as any other small grocery store - cleaner than a small country hardwear store, but dirtier than a big national chain store like Walmart.
We get their polish sausage (John Morrell - not sure if that's store brand or not, but it's the only kind they have there) and I love it. They are they only place that sells strawberry soda around here, and it's pretty good. Most of the store brand food there is good, but I wouldn't recommend their Ritz-type crackers. It always seems like they're undercooked. I haven't tried anything from their baked goods section, and I never want too. I saw mold once on these cupcake things they were trying to sell.
The produce is nothing to get excited about. They have decent prices, but it's not in the best shape. So if you want to get something like turnips or bananas that doesn't really get into bad shape, they're fine, but the cucumbers and tomatoes are usually kind of squishy and wrinkled.
In my experience, Save-a-Lot usually has the best prices on some of every type of food. like salad dressing, chocolate chips, soda, pork chops, and fried chicken (both kinds of meat are just as good as you would find anywhere else). So they don't really have a certain type of food that they sell cheap, you just have to compare prices individually. Most of their food is more or less the same price as Walmart.

Thanks for the info. We don't have aldi's around just walmart, shaws, hannaford and a liquidation store. They wount be open till spring but the prices looked good when I checked their flyer online. Wouldn't t have thought about the bags all the stores here provide them for free eventhough I try to bring my reusable ones.

We have several of them nearby. They are not the cleanest. They tend to have quite a few fruit flies buzzing around the produce.
There is one that is cleaner than the others, on my way home from work so I shop there most often. I like the prices on potatoes and bananas. They do have a good deal on some junk foods that I like such as frozen fries and sweet potato fries, hashbrowns, and frozen dinners for work lunches. I got a great deal on large cans of pumpkin for $1 a couple of weeks ago. I also like to buy their small cans of tomato sauce for pizza making.
They sell lard there in a big tub that I got to try soap making.
I avoid the meat because the prices there are much higher than our regular grocery that discounts the meat before it is too old.
We really don't mind bagging our own groceries. I prefer my own bags since they are stronger and hold way more plus we can bag them the way we want. The kids like to help with the bagging.
