Default Do you ever check Zwillow or like sites?

I checked a few of these sites. WOW I wish my taxes were what they were reporting. The value of our home varies by almost $100,000 on different sites. One has a pic of the wrong hobby farm!

Where in the heck do they get their info?

I see Zillow every so often. When we are looking to rent and type in addresses to see it in Google Earth or Microsoft or Mapquest, a Zillow and similar site hit usually comes up too.

One thing I discovered recently though, is that many places are putting their county records online. You get the name of the owner, the parcel lot number, the tax assessed value, etc. It could come in handy for anyone wanting to track the tax value of their property, especially if something goes wrong with the assessment. Usually it is a GIS (geographic information systems) setup on a government website.

Remembering that the tax assessment will be different (lower usually) than the resale value, it could still be a good source to estimate your place's value better.

I have, especially when we bought our house. I think Zillow is pretty accurate for us but Cyberhomes is on the low side.

We used online records a lot when buying - we just pulled up all the documents related to the house - you can see when it sold, how much it sold for, when it was refinanced, etc. So I know that our offer was fully enough for the people we bought from to pay off their mortgage and make some money.

~I'm on Zillow almost every day looking at homes in CO where we're moving. It's awesome touring thousands of homes online and looking at the street view to see the neighborhoods as if I was standing there or walking around.
The info on Zillow for our house here is wrong. They've lumped our property with the property next door, used our square footage and last sale information but our neighbor's year of construction. The property value estimate is absurdly low for either of our homes let alone the two together. But I kinda like that the info is wrong. It makes me feel a bit safer. ~

Zillow can not find my property, nor can it find my Montana property. If you you live in the country, it struggles.
