About to leave on a big snowmobile trip...
Sled's all packed up and ready to go. Tomorrow we leave to head up to Churchill Manitoba. That's no big deal, been up there a couple of times. Likely take a couple of days to get up there. Once we get to Churchill, we meet up with the Churchill patrol of the Canadian Rangers, and we head along the coast through Wapusk National Park to Port Nelson. We got our permission letter from Parks Canada today to travel through the park and carry loaded firearms for bear protection. We were also informed that this is the time of year when female polar bears leave their dens with the cubs and head towards the bay. We were given encounter/occurrence forms to fill out if we meet up with any big white bears. We will be camping overnight in the park at least one night if not a few. There's no real established trails going through the park, so we are basically pushing through on our own. At least there aren't a lot of trees lol. It's about 300 km to Churchill, then likely 400-500km to Port Nelson, then another couple hundred back to town. Hauling lots of fuel, food, tents, sleeping bags, tools, spare parts, etc. There's nothing in between, once we leave Churchill, we will see nothing man-made until we hit Port Nelson, which was abandoned in 1918 after Churchill was decided as the better port on Hudson Bay. (Port Nelson, Manitoba - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) If the mouth of the Nelson looks alright, which we doubt it will, we will try to head across to York Factory, the fort that was once the headquarters of the Hudson Bay Company, and an occupied fort from the 1600s to the 1950s. (York Factory, Manitoba - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
Taking the camera along for the ride, hoping to see some animals, hopefully not too close. We do have written letters authorizing the use of deadly force if absolutely necessary, but we really don't want to have to deal with the paperwork afterwords. Hopefully the sky will be clear again as well, and there's more Northern Lights action.
Should be back by Monday, barring any major problems.

Have fun! Be safe! Though I am a little jealous since I haven't got to ride my sled much this year because we aren't getting much snow here in Iowa.
