Better weather, but too late for U.S. corn crop - Yahoo! News
I was also watching CNN today and they were discussing the same things, specifically talking about meat prices. They said grocery prices were up 6% last month.Frugalista Mama to DD 13 & DS 9

We got 3 inches of rain here last night in Southern Indiana.... woohoo! (But most of our cornfields have already been ground up for silage for the animals)....

Not only are the prices up, but it's bad corn, skinny and stunted. Nothing to do now but hope next year is a bumper crop.

Yep, and stock up where you can before prices go up too much.

Indiana was hit bad! We drove through the state recently going from WI to KY and back. I have never seen anything so brown!!! My anxiety rose the more we drove through.
I know we're faring better here in WI but it's definitely in a "on your way north" kind of thing. The southern (and I guess western portions of the state) are doing rather poorly. But the corn looks better and better the further north you go. Here by us, it looks alright, though not as tall as usual. Up by Antigo it's taller than me and beautifully green! It's crazy.
Hugs to those in Indiana!

The drought is one issue with the corn. The other is the extreme heat we had while the corn was pollinating. While the plants might look good the ears have not filled out. Crops here looked good three weeks ago but have gone downhill fast since then. We still haven't had a measurable rain. It rained last night and early this a.m. and I walked across the grass and my shoes didn't get wet. Its so dry every drop of moisture just immediately disappears.
