When I went to do dishes a few minutes ago and a head popped up in my kitchen window. It was a deer standing on a snowbank trying to get at some of the upper needles of a tall yew right next to my window. You never know what's just outside your window.
Poor deer are all over my yard day & night. With all the cold & snow they are having a hard time finding food. Glad we planned on replacing our yews with other landscaping this Spring, all mine are just about gone.
Deer population is out of control around here. We've thought about feeding them but not sure if that's the best thing to do. Survival of the fittest and all that. I think more hunting permits need to issued to help control the population.
Right now there are 2 deer laying down under a pine and 4 more wondering around nibbling on various plants. They are so neat to look at.
To add to the wildlife fun I am sitting here typing and a female cardinal keeps flying into & hitting it's beak against the livingroom window. Bonk...Bonk...crazy thing.
Your post reminded me of when I worked for a camp and we had a fawn that the owner took care of when his mama got hit by a car. That deer thought he was one of the camp dogs. He would walk into any building he wanted - he spent alot of time in my office because it had a good view of the road (he liked the mail truck coming every day because the mail man gave him treats).
We finally had to take him out to the deep woods after he kept getting in trouble for eatting the neighbors flowers. - jul
