I just can't stand over mayo-ed food (I'd also prefer to eat a lower fat option mayo) and for the simple fact that I don't know how long it' s been sitting out in the kitchen.
I didn't realize how old this thread was until someone pointed it out. Holy beans it's old! Someone dusted off this one from the basement, that's for sure

I don't order green salads for fear of cross-contamination. I hold the mayo and most sauces because places tend to gob it on. Depending on the place I'm pretty hesitant about fish and chicken unless its pre-prepared like nuggets, fish & chips battered things.
But I'll take the risk and love sushi if the place looks nice/clean. I'm ok with some buffets, depends on the place.LDR

For the most part I don't order anything I can make at home. I do tend to order coconut shrimp quite a bit when we go out, not because I can't make it at home, but if I did I would want to eat it constantly
I also don't order anything with cream sauces if I can help it. I'd never order corn on the cob. Now that I'm in Florida I will order seafood at a steak house or someplace that doesn't "specialize" in seafood but back home in Indiana, I'd NEVER do that lol.

FrugalGuru----- try to find Eggland's Best. They are everywhere, and are free range, and I think they even have an organic version also. I got some at WM today, and have seen them literally everywhere I have shopped, here in MI and also where I live in Ohio.
AnW819-----I think maybe everyone's worries about Mayo is it can't be left out of the refridgerator very long and restaurants may be less careful than the rest of us. It can start to 'grow' bacteria very quickly and cause illness.______

FrugalGuru, here is a list of which stores and chains carry Eggland's Best free-range eggs in Texas:

I'm sure you'll have one of these near you. Houston's a big town.______

I'm beginning to realize between this thread and the 'foods you can't eat because they make you feel cruddy' thread------that I am NOT very discerning about what I put in my stomach, compared to most people.
Maybe I should look and think more before I eat. I'd probably be thinner, at least.........______

Depends where I am when I am eating

As a rule I NEVER order pork chops, meat loaf, or organ meat ~ I can only eat pork chops and meat loaf I make and I hate organ meats.
I'm skittish about Chinese food unless it's a more upscale place.
I eat loads of seafood here because it's fresh. I'll eat steak anywhere (or I used too until I had my gall bladder out) but I stick to chicken without cream sauces.
I order burgers alot and that is the one thing that I send back to the kitchen if it isn't cooked exactly as I order it. And it better be an entirely new burger that comes back or it's unacceptable.
I'm not really picky except I refuse to eat at some of the places my DH eats...he has a cast iron stomach and the biker bar was not my favorite place to eat (and believe it or not I had seafood and it was OK).
I know this creeps alot of people out but I'm not above checking out our health dept.'s website and checking out the restaurants with lots of violations and what they are exactly so I can decide whether or not to chance it.
Also, I love mayo and it's not the mayo itself that's a problem but once things are added to it ~ esp. protein ~ that make the problem. Mayo is fairly acidic.Nancy

I thought of another one...I don't use the tartar sauce or order it...that stuff can kill you...

I cannot think of anything I flat out refuse to order. We eat out at least once a week at a wide variety of establishments and have NEVER, EVER gotten sick.
My kids have no apprehension about trying any food whatsoever. We've encouraged them to keep an open mind about trying new things. They love everything from escargot to crawdads to sushi to frog legs to muscles. All of which they order whenever on the menu.
About the only thing we probably would not order as a rule is pasta. We generally don't eat pasta. It's just not something appetizing to any of us except DH.DD (19)
