My son Francois broke his elbow bone...
It happened around 11h15 am. He tried to descend a skate board ramp that was 8 feet high...and fell...
I took him to the clinic, then to radiology and I saw the x-rays myself and being an *ex* x-ray technician, I saw it. Fot hose who know more, he fractured his proximal ulna (a part in the elbow)
We are going to the hospital tomorrow at 1h15 to see the orthopedist to have a cast made. Imagine! We have to wait until tomorrow....Francois is wondering how he will sleep. He moves alot while sleeping and he has to keep his arm and elbow still. It's too painful, anyways...
The dr. said, if he would have had some ptotection on the elbow, maybe it wouldn't have broken...
With all this, I didn't get to his school, to find out if he passed his french exam.
Oh well...

Thanks everyone. We only have Tylenol to give him for pain. He seems to endure well his pain. He's a very calm boy. I hope he does sleep well tonight, though.
I told Francois all the nice things you said for him. He didn't say much. just smiled...like I said; he's a calm and quiet and reserved boy...but I know he appreciates your good wishes.
I'll tell you how it tomorrow, when we'll be back.

Oh Lucie, I am so sorry that Francois broke his elbow. I am sorry that they are making him wait till tomorrow for his cast, is there a reason for that or is it just the convenience of the hospital or clinic? I remember when Heather's son broke his collar bone and he had to wait till the next day to be xrayed and they told him to take Tylenol too. I thought that was awful then and this is awful now, they should take care of children when they are hurt not the next day unless there is a good reason.

Here is a big
and an even bigger
for Francois. Here is a big
for you too. I am keeping you and your family in my prayers and thoughts.

Thanks everyone.
You're so kind!
Kathy, I have to explain to you how medical care works here in Quebec and probably many places in Canada. First of all, there is a very important shortage in doctors and even more so of nurses.
Yesterday, I took Francois to the clinic, instead of the hospital, even if I knew they couldn't fix his arm if it was broke. The reason is, we would have waited probably something like 6 hours to see the dr. and we would have still had to come back the next day for his cast. If their sceduale was booked for the day for cast making, that's it...we have to wait. Of coarse, unless he would have had a terrible open fracture of his arm...you know what I mean...
I had stopped at the clinic where they do x-rays, but there was a 3 hour wait. So I took him to the clinic near our home(they don't x-rays), but we waited 3 minutes--it was empty...That was Very lucky! We then went to the other clinic for the x-ray--waited 20 minutes. We went back to the first clinic and then the dr. said it was fractured. He phoned the hospital to make an apointement for him to see the orthopedist and make a cast. He tried for the same day, but there was no place available...
So that is the story here in Quebec. Unless, you are literally dying---having a heart attack, bad asthma attack, or bleeding profusely--you will have to wait...
Terrible, isn't it? And I was told by a nurse, that we will reach the craziest peek in lack of medical care in about 10 years. Then it will slowly start to get better. Imagine!!!
You are right, Kathy! They should never make kids wait, especially when they are suffering! I think it's awful!
I hope my explaination wasn't too boring--I know it was long...
By the way, Francois slept siting on the sofa last night. H egot up at 5h30 am. His arm hurt too much. He ate breakfast, I gave him Tylenol and now he is sleeping on the sofa...poor thing...he's so tired. He probably didn't sleep well...
Well, thanks so much again for your hugs and prayers and good thoughts.
