Lucie, don't let the clean freak get to you. If they call and come over unexpectedly they take what they get and like it or don't bother coming over.
You guys are just living life and not living in a museum.

Hope you have a nice visit.

Well, it went well! I always get nervous when they come....

They stayed 1/2 hour only! They just wanted to bring a computor chair for us and my mil made my dh's favorite dessert--sugar squares with oatmeal...

My mil did most of the talking. They did ask Pierre how he was, but we could see they felt uncomfortable with his answer...they are having a hard to cope that Pierre is depressed...especially his dad. Oh well...

I've got to learn to destress about their visits...gee I've been 22 years with Pierre and I still feel this way...but if you only knew why....It would be too long to say...oh well, I guess it's life...

Thanks Darlene and Debbie for your encouragements!

    I'm glad it went well.

I have in-laws who do the same thing~ they live 40 minutes away, but will wait to call us until they are already in our town to let us know they're "dropping by", and "oh, by the way, we have friends with us".....

oh no, Amy...that's even worse! My inlaws did this once...they knocked on our door, one morning around 9h30 am on a saterday morning, when I had only Francois as a baby....AND they had brought their friends to see our new home! We were all in pyjamas and our home was a mess...

I saw they were embarrassed and uncomfortable, too, and now they call before they come....

If my parents came like this without calling, it would be so different....because we have a great relationship together and my parents NEVER comment or disaprove on how we live. They have always respected us...and that, we really apreciate.

I get really stressed every time my in-laws come by too, Lucie. They just stopped by yesterday, ugh!!! You'd have to know my mil to understand why I say ugh! to you my friend! Glad it is all over and went well for you!

I'm glad it went well Lucie, I'm sorry they can't hear Pierre, many older people just don't think such things happen, they think you can just wish or whistle it away..... My in-laws come 2000 miles and stay in our house for a week OR TWO .... last time they came 3 days early and I didn't have their guestroom ready (OUR ROOM) .... lol.......... Oh well !

    Thanks Michelle.

Well, Lori...I shouldn't complain....lol I wonder how I would cope for 2 weeks living in the same home?

Your inlaws live very far! I imagine they cannot visit often....

You know, I feel bad talking this way...my inlaws are good people and generous, but they are just too controling...oh well...like you say, Lori...

Wonderful advice! Glad it was a "quick" visit! I'm like you Lucie, I like a little warning too.
