Make the trains stop so we can sleep!!!!
We've found the one thing we will have to get use to. Trains!!!!!
I think one goes by every hour. The first night we here Joe said he didn't get any sleep and the poor baby had to be at work at 8. We finished some unpacking and went to bed about midnight that first night and when I got up he said "Do you know how many trains went by last" I said no and he said 12. He said he saw the clock at least once every hour....lol Between that and the cats playing and exploring their new home he said he slept maybe on hour.
I think he is starting to get use to them. But every now and then they still wake him up.

We used to live in a house by the freeway and when I first moved there, I could'nt sleep at night. Then when we left and moved here, I could'nt sleep because it was so darn quiet! I hope that you will have peaceful nights soon...

Oh no! I used to live about 60 yards away from some RR tracks out in the middle of nowhere. It'd be dead silent one minute, then the house would start shaking from a train blasting through. It'll get better.

Sweetpea - if it's any consolation, allow me to tell you what's at the end of my road....
EL PASO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
non-stop arrivals & departures!! Believe it or not - you actually get used to it! When we go back to DC, it's hard to sleep in all the quiet!

I understand where you are coming from - I used to live right by the Oceana base where you have F14's and F18's flying all day and night!!! It sounds like the jets are about to come through your house!!
Hope it gets better for you soon!!! Malcom can send you some good ear plugs that they use for shooting!!
you can't hardly hear a thing with those!!!

Kat
When we lived in Oregon, we lived right by the train tracks and in the flight path for and National Guard Air base and the city's airport. They used to train fighter pilots at the base and I had my windows rattling so many times as some of the idiots flew too low!!! Oh, and when there was a scramble because of an unidentified aircraft entering American airspace, those planes would shoot out of there so fast and we'd hear sonic booms!

I lived with it once before. One of the first places my mom rented after the divorce was near a RR. Every odd hour we would hear a train. I got use to it there pretty quick there and I am starting to get use to it here. The first night was the hardest though. Joe will get use to it. Every now and then I may hear one or two but that is when we have the windows opened up.

If they are real close Kat, you will get a black nasty soot from them! I used to be covered in it every day.

When we were kids, my father moved us from the farm to a Hungarian communtiy called "Delray" near Detroit. Our home was right behind the "Salt Mines" there and there were trains and trucks running all night! As a kid, I thought it was exciting! I'd watch out of my bedroom window upstairs for hours. Guess I don't remember having problems sleeping then, but I know I'd never get to sleep now!
Ear plugs work best!

In college my apartment was right on the RR tracks~all the space between the tracks and our building was the width of two parking spaces. Kat's right, you do eventually get used to them at night. We never could talk on the phone, though, as the trains went roaring past!
