Who heard about the Ruby Tuesday's employee.....
getting fired for being overweight? When I was home my grandmother mentioned this girl that had been all over the news recently because of being fired from RT. The store she was at was the one in my hometown.
I had a classmate that worked there who is overweight and I asked I was wondering if it was her but when my grandmother told me the name I knew it wasn't.
Anyway, I get to my reunion and guess what I find out....my grandmother had the name wrong and it was her to begin with. She knew I had worked at RT and for one of the managers that was at that store because everytime I went home we went there and used my discount.
Turns out she got employee of the month one day and 3 day's later the district manager for that store told her that she didn't fit the new low carb image and her uniform didn't and never would fit her properly.
Some how it got to the media and they have since offered her her job back plus back pay for lost compensation plus about $25,000. She turned them down. She was being flown out today by Good Morning America and will appear on that show tomorrow. I hardly get a chance to watch the news in the morning but I have a feeling since I know her and worked for them that I will be staying tuned for this one.

I have known her for a long time and she has alway's struggled with her weight. Her husband passed away a few years ago after being killed in an accident while hunting.

Oh my goodness. That poor lady. That was so wrong of them but I know it happens everywhere. I hope she gets an apology and some big bucks from Ruby Tuesdays.
Do you mind if I post the link to the story elsewhere? I would like to share it with some girls who also are battling weight problems.
I wouldn't copy your post, just use the link to her story."Success on any major scale requires you to accept responsibity."

I don't mind at all and knowing Misty she wouldn't either. She is telling anyone who will listen her story.

i work for wegmans and our uniforms go up to 5x i think and the pants go up to size 50 mens(but they are cut 4 sizes too small) i had to get a 48 mens but i normally wear a 24 or 22 ladies( 24 is very loose)..
if they want the uniforms to look good offer them in a wide range of sizes enough for most everyonecar loan 12/2006 14,687.93

Kat, that really stinks. I think Ruby Tuesday's has bought themselves a lot of bad publicity.
If I remember correctly, didn't you post a while back about getting an email from RT saying that all employees should exercize and maintain a healthy look or words to that affect?
Personally,as a customer, I don't care what an employee looks like as long as they're efficient and friendly and well groomed.

This is horrible!!!! If I were the people of that town where she was fired, I'd be boycotting the restaurant. I really hope she does sue the pants off that manager!

I do hope that things work out for her and that Ruby Tuesday gets some needed bad media coverage for this.

The manager that I know from that store (I worked with him when I first started working for RT while in Lumberton NC and then he got transferred to Hickory) he went to bat for her and said that she was one of his best servers and he didn't want her fired. He is overweight as well and has since been sent to the RT in Lenoir (with another manager I use to work with) for the time being. As far as we know it was not his choice to change stores.

Wouldn't it stand to reason that many of the patrons choosing the diet items would be overweight ? Shame on Rt !!!!!!!!!

That is really deplorable! I hope this lady fights this-
It is a very scary situation when just because someone does
not "fit" the perfect mold that someone sets for himself or others, they get fired! You mentioned the manager being
overweight himself-! That's really priceless-

that district manager needs to talk to corporate. according to corporate, RT is NOT going towards a low carb menu or image. they are looking to go towards a more healthy menu, blah blah blah.at least that's what i was told when i complained about the kids menu when it first changed and the grilled cheese had been taken off the kids menu. i was told quite a few time in the email that RT was in no way going low carb. coulda fooled me.
anyway, i'm sorry they did that to your friend and that the manager that stood up for her got sent to another store. with all the publicity she might get a better offer from another company that will treat her better.wife to carl
