have more internet friends than hometown friends

I do have lots of neighbors and acquaintances in town whom I enjoy but just not any really close friends that I really have a connection with. My husband is my best friend and we spend lots of time together but sometimes a girl just needs a girl friend to share girl things with.
One of my New Years resolutions is to put myself out there more and make some friends (IRL and online). So here I am making my first post after lurking for a few days! Hi Everybody!

I'm incredibly lucky to have a number of amazing people IRL who I can call my friends and I definitely don't take them for granted. I don't do acquaintances, really.

It's weird, I actually find it hard to make friends online which is such a shame because it's a brilliant way to get to know people with similar interests and I've encountered some really great people

I think it's maybe because I am more uncomfortable in groups - IRL or online - and much prefer talking to people one-on-one. Since forums are obviously a group setting, I completely suck at getting to know people I really like these forums, though.

Tips on how to be more sociable are welcome

I should open a trailer park where we can all live. You'll recognize me right away - I'll be the one in purple curlers, a filthy pink bathrobe, fuzzy bunny slippers and a shrill, disagreeable voice. Really makes you want to move in right away, doesn't it?

Oh....LULU.............this cracked me up. Maxine (the Hallmark lady and my hero) wears fuzzy bunny slippers you know!!!

What city are you in?........close to San Diego? Lived there for a spell.......a couple times.

I have one really good friend IRL and a few others that I see at different events. I'm very shy so no friends online. Seems I always say the wrong thing and it's taken wrong. Also, I've always been a loner so I avoid others 'drama'.

What city are you in?

Hiya FrugalFranny...I'm just outside Palm Springs. The desert just agrees with me. I love visiting San Diego when I can because it's so different from where I live. And the shopping there is fantastic.

Also, I've always been a loner so I avoid others 'drama'.

Onencgirl...I can totally relate to this and it gets more true as I age. The older I get, the less drama I can tolerate. I mean, some drama just goes with the territory (dealing with people). But when it's all gossipy nonsense and who-said-what all the time, I just get worn out.

The drama factor is why I had to drop out of the local knitting club. It was unbelievable.
