big ticket things you just know you'll have to purchase...
in the upcoming year.
I know we're going to have to buy a refrigerator in the upcoming year. The fridge we have came with the house and I swear it's from the late 70's. It's starting to make all types of noises and I know it's time to break down and get a new one. I know it's been repaired in the past because there are repair company stickers stuck inside it. lol I'm not sure it is worth repairing at the age it's at.
It's funny to hit the fridge to make it stop making noises, but it's also not so funny too.
It's difficult to accumulate an emergency fund when there is always something. I guess it's a good thing that we can even afford to save for what we "need", but still frustrating when it feels like we just can't seem to get ahead.
Anyone else know a big ticket item they will probably end up having to spend money on?If you'd like to help support Frugal Living by Sara Noel, my syndicated column, e-mail, write, or call the managing editor at your local newspaper and ask them to publish it in print or online. Hopefully nothing anytime soon. We just got a washer and dryer (thanks to early Christmas money) and the parents are getting us the nursery items (crib, dresser etc). The only thing we plan on getting anytime soon is a microwave.....I hate having to wait 30 minutes to cook something in the oven that could have been done in 3 minutes in the microwave. But nowaday's they aren't to expensive if you just get a basic one. (although the one Joe wants has a toaster attached to it so of course its a little more expensive)

yeah, I guess I should have said that one of ours would be dr.'s visits and the hospital stay for what the insurance doesn't cover.......how could I forget that.

Installing a new whole house heater downstairs which will require building a closet , running a gas line and duct work and new ducts to previously unheated areas. Installing a radiant water heater system - basically instant hot water for the whole house - requires Gas line and waterlines. Building a garage in Spring which is supposed to be $4300 (

Sure you want to hear this? Nicole will have her wisdom teeth out in Jan (no dental for that) at around $1600. Just got over major car probs & now the transmission on her car is going to the tune of maybe $1500.(Car is payed for & still worth putting the $$ into but enough already!) Merry bill paying.
It's not raining here, it's pouring. Like I always say & you prob all think I'm mental but somehow it all works out.
Ps. ds starts college in the fall, dd starts her 3rd year.Oh my!~*Darlene*~

We have LOTS of big ticket expenses coming up next year-- hence, we have a special occasion fund for the first time ever.
Jan. 8- ds#2 turns 18, will need substantial gift as it's a landmark birthday.
May - ds#s graduates from HS, announcements, cap, gown, party, gifts
June- dd is in a wedding in PA. Dress $210, shoes, hair, makeup, travel for at least 3 of us to PA from IL, hotels, food, gifts. . .
Sept. ds #2 will graduate from Marine Corps. boot camp. Travel expenses for at least 4 of us from IL to CA- hotels, air fare, food, car rental.
Whew! Now I remember why I'm working all this overtime.

A new furnace (ug), new water softener, and most likely new driveway. When we bought our house 15 years ago, dh said that was going to be the first thing we needed to do! Now, the driveway and floor of the garage are really a mess! Expensive year....

We're keeping a wary eye on our fridge too. It's about 15 yrs. old and making some funky sounds these days. I'm a little worried about our hot water heater as well. Otherwise we're going to be working on our house again....hopefully new flooring and countertops, but this is dependent on our sales/income.

Dh needs alot of major dental work and some is covered but some will not be...our washer is getting up there and has had many repairs...our pool will probably need a new liner this summer, but we may just get rid of the pool anyway, it takes so much time to keep clean and we don't use it much anymore...

Were hoping not much. We do have to get new back tires for the van. I hope we can get them before January.
Otherwise, everything is pretty new around here.
