Unhappy Had my annual physical today

and it didn't go quite as well as I had hoped. I have to go for some tests as it looks like I may have a problem with my thyroid. I also have to go for a mammogram, a back x-ray and a ton of blood work. The only good news was that my cholesterol levels and my blood pressure were fine and I have lost 5 lbs.

I am a little concerned about having to go for a mammogram. I thought I would have another 10 years or so before I would have to start regular screening.

Well at least it doesn't cost me anything!

I almost forgot, I ouched when the doc pushed on my abdomen right around my gall bladder. He got all serious and said "We'll have to keep an eye on that".

I think I wanna go back to being 39 again. Forty is starting to cramp my style

    Chriss

It is now recommended that all women have annual mammograms from age 40 on. I had my first at age 24 or 25 due to fibrocystic breast disease. I've had others now and I can tell you from experience, they are alot easier now then they were when I was in my 20's! The technology is better also and they can check layer by layer in your pictures to rule anything out.

Chriss - Canada believes in Preventitive Medicine - unlike most American Insurance Agencies - don't get too alarmed - they are just looking out for you and making sure!! Here (with Blue Cross and Secure Horizons, Great Western, Kaiser and 80 dozen others) they wait til the parts fall off to see if you actually have something!! I am glad you are getting good care - and I don't envy you getting your boobees squished at 40 - I think I am glad that they will wait til mine fall off!!I am 42 with a family history of breast cancer and there aint nobody who's squished these bad mammerjammers!! LOL Sending you best wishes at any rate!!

I guess it's just the idea of having the mammo done. I have one every year and it's not bad at all. As a matter of fact, I'm due for one now and will have it set up next week when I go for routine 3 month appointment. It's the exam at the other end that I stress out about. That one is coming up soon too.

Thanks for all the hugs and support ladies. I feel a bit better about having the tests this morning.

There is no history of breast cancer in my family and I do a self exam every month.

Marshhen, I always worry about my exam at the "other end" too.

No, LOL, I'm talking about the extreme other end. The one where they sedate you so you don't remember it. I really think they sedate you so you don't try to strangle the doctor. LOL
