Freaking Out Here!!!
Okay, so Rob has hockey tonight and he left about an hour ago. Well, about a half hour ago, as I sat here reading all of your fabulous posts, the house shook and there was a bang or a crash louder than I've heard in a looooonnnngggg time. My heart stopped and I got the chills. I got up and looked outside and I don't see anything. The kids didn't wake up, so that's a good thing. However, I'm still totally freaked. I'm guessing it was just the wind knocking a big branch out of the woods behind the house or else it was a loose brick from that stupid chimney falling on the roof. Whatever it is, I'M FREAKING OUT.

I'm imagining some mythical creature crawling around on my roof, perched and ready to attack me as soon as I turn off the laptop and snuggle under the covers. Add this to the fact that when I got home from work today, I found that dh hadn't fully pulled the front door shut behind him and the front door had been ajar all day, so, it could also be the murderer that is surely hiding in my attic.
I just wanted to get to sleep early tonight! Now I have to wait until Rob gets home from hockey!

I'm sure there is some logical reason?
But then again I am the one that has to have a big dog living in the house all the time with us!!!! I would crawl in bed with one of the kids!!! Good luck!

Amy my dh works at night so I know how you feel. Take the phone with you and check on the kiddos if you haven't already (although Im sure you have) then call someone anyone just a human voice will chase the creature on the roof away. BTW reading your post made me think of the movie Signs.

Well, I may be 33 years old, but I called my Daddy and I'm feeling better.
He actually offered to come over.
I didn't take him up on it.
Oh, and Angelee...I WASN'T thinking of Signs until you said THAT...thank you VERY MUCH!

It's prob nothing.Like you said,a branch or something
Now I'm the biggest scaredy cat there is.When Steve worked nights,I'd ALWAYS hear things. I'd have all the lights off in the house and walk around with the cordless phone peaking out the blinds...ready to dial 911 lol
I once made Ashley (she was about 3) sleep with me because I kept hearing things. Some how,it made me feel safe LOL
Then around 2 am she peed my bed and I put her back in her own bed!

I hate hearing strange noises if I'm on my own!
When we were kids, one night my mom had just closed the adjoining door to the kitchen and we heard a strange noise in there!!
Dad was at work so us kids and mom carefully opened the door ready to jump on some intruder, it turned out to be a nearly empty cornflake box that had fell down off the shelf with the draught caused by the door closing!
I'm sure yours will be something just as simple Amy!

Things that go bump in the night!
This mobile home we are living in now has a metal roof and it's sitting next to a large oak tree. One night about 3 in the am, I heard something on the roof and it was BIG! After a few minutes, I just couldn't stand it any longer and got the shotgun out of the gun cabinet, loaded it, grabbed the flashlight and went out on the front porch. LOL, it was two raccoons fighting over my lab's big rawhide bone that she had buried at the base of the oak tree.
I just let them duke it out for a bit and then they saw me and scampered back to the tree and up they went. One of them dropped the bone from the top of the tree and I retreived it so we wouldn't have round two on the roof. LOL, good thing for them that I didn't shoot first and ask questions later.
