Guess what happened to us...
We were getting gas Monday and this guy pulls up and asks Steve for money.Gives this story about needing to get somewhere...Steve says he doesn't have any spare change and sorry he couldn't help.
I was sitting in the van freaking out.I just knew if Steve told him no,he'd pull a gun or something. I started to go inside and tell the attendant to make the guy leave.
About that time Steve says "Tell you what, back up and I'll put $5 in for you.."
The attendant comes out and asks the guy to stop begging for gas,and to leave.Steve had already said he'd give him the gas,so he starts pumping it,tells Steve Thank you and leaves. Steve goes inside to get a receipt and the guy leaves and goes to the next gas station....where we seen him talking to a guy, prob asking for gas or money.
Steve gets in and I said that guy freaked me out.I didn't know what was going to happen when he told him he didn't have money.Steve said the guy sounded nervous, like he was in trouble and had to get somewhere (a city 3 hours away from us) right away. I said he may have killed someone and running from the cops to....
I have never been so scared in my life.

I know how scary those close calls are - we had a young boy come to the door bleeding and asked if he could use the phone - Bob was at work just me and the kids at home - I didn't have a cordless at the time so I let him come in and use the phone and out of the bloody towel he was holding a gun fell on to the ground. He reached down with the towel and picked the gun up - he wasn't bleeding at all - and he left - about ten minutes later the cops came through our "fancy" neighborhood and told everyone to lock there doors and not answer (they did this on loudspeaker) I still lament the day I took this chance - and this was the third time this sort of thing happened to me - twice here in Denver and once in Phoenix!!
what a dork!!
Actually the first time I was alone and he stuck a gun in my side and the second time we lived in a really really bad neighborhood in Aurora and the guy actually just burst in to our house - Bob was there - and that time I was scared for Bob and proud )like you must of felt) cuz he got the guy outside away from his (Bob's ) family - a pretty selfless act!!

You know, I have been seeing on Fox news where this couple kidnapped their children from a foster home by gunpoint. They took off and evaded the police after a high speed chase. The police now believe they have a different car. This happened in a little town on the N.C/ Tenn. border. Police have issued an Amber alert for the two children. They are positive that they have left the area. I think I would call the local police and report this and give a description of the guy and car. You never know! I saw a pic of the parents. Guy was maybe in his twenties, blonde hair, skinny to med. build. Woman had blonde stringy hair. The children were taken from them because they were operating a meth lab in their home. Police believe they are still armed.
Edited to add: The guy may have dropped the mom and children off somewhere while he tried to get enough gas to move on thinking if he were by himself he wouldn't attract much attention.

That is most freaky!
One that got mad years ago was on our 1st annivesary (belated honneymoon) to Las Vegas. There were beggers hitting me up left and right. I felts so bad that we were on this nice vacation and they were hungry. I bought a guy a meal from BK. I gave out cash and Dh had them bumming smokes. We felt good about helping.
That changed! I had a black jack dealer tell me most of those beggers made more than we ever will in a year. I was furious!!! We were walking into the Luxor and a bum hit me up giving me a guilt trip. I started yelling at him that we worked a darn year for this trip and maybe he ought to get a job. Needless to the guy was furious! Thank heavens dh was there.~July 19 saving goal for event $104/$1000

I'm glad that you're okay. You never know who someone is eh?
I don't know how it is in the states, but I worked with the street population in canada for some years and 99% of them were earnestly poverty stricken, would happily exchange work for money, and wouldn't hurt a flea. And there is no way they made anything like what any of us make. If they were lucky, they had 20$-40$ at the end of the day after sitting outside for 12-16 hours or more in the rain or snow. Of course there are bad apples, but just for the record, most are not, just in a bad spot. I'm not sure where the myth came from that street beggars are fabulously wealthy and make hundreds and hundreds of dollars a day. You hear about it in the news sometimes I guess. I remember one young fellow coming in out of the rain one day (it was on the west coast... lots of rain) saying that he had made 250$ that day. But that was a total anomolie because some woman had had a windfall and was giving away large amounts of money to the street people. She made the paper and ended up giving out 10,000$ that night.
