Hi! New Here!
Hi everyone! I'm Jen, I'm 26 divorced with a 2 year old little girl Isabella. I lown my own home and my roommate has decided to move out on his own (my brother) so I am looking for ways to cut my spending so I can still live how I'm used to and also be able to save for emergencies and put away for Izzys college. I also have several animals that I feed lol 2 dogs, 2 cats, bearded dragon and fish. I can't wait to get to know everyone and get some tips on how to live a frugal life

Jen! Are you thinking about possibly getting another roommate to keep your costs down?

I thought about it but have decided against it. It's time that for the first time in my life, I live on my own lol (I moved in with my ex husband the night we got married). Also, my brother was paying me about $300/month. He was eatting atleast $100/month in groceries himself and he had to have certain phone features and cable channels. Since he left I have cut down my grocery bill (but not as far as I KNOW I can go), cut cable to just basic cable, got rid of my house line ($80/month) and just kept my cell ($45/month) and am saving on beer costs (we are both beer drinkers but when I buy some they always seem to dissappear within a day instead of lasting awhile).Originally posted by hmsclmom

Jen,
It sounds like you could easily save that $300 just in the cut backs you are making already.

That is true and I know I can but the thing is, I've never had a savings, daughters savings, emergency fund or anything like that. I've always lived right to the penny. I need to start making some smart choices so that I have $ when I seriously need it and an emergency fund is a top priority. I need to have something, anything, if something was to happen to my job. I also forgot to mention I attend college part time in the evenings but luckily tuition plus books are paid in full with financial aid

Hello Jen and Welcome to the village. Sounds like you are already taking steps to Frugal Living. I found it really easy to save by putting the account in my son's name so it makes me feel guilt about taking it out or NOT putting any in. I'm sure you will find TONS of ideas here at the village
