Default ~Companion post to the "How frugal are you?" post~ What changes are you going to make

I'm going to work on our food bill. I know I can do much better. I think our home heating and electric bill could come down a good bit......

Now, the discretionary spending....? Uuumm I could maybe improve on this as well.

~48 yr. old sahw, livin' it up in our empty nest, smack dab in the middle of everywhere.~

I was just thinking the same thing. I know I can do much better
and if I can stockpile enough I won't have to buy only milk and fresh veg and fruits until summer.
Then I can use grocery money to pay off some bills.
Thanks for giving me the idea....

There are a ton of things I could be more frugal with. Our grocery bill is the main thing. We spend waaay too much money on groceries/hba, etc. I am going to start there, and then see what's next.

I am really working hard at discretionary spending. For the months of Jan and Feb...I am buying ONLY necessities. trying to build a little cushion back up...we seemed to have burned through all the EF...and I can;t seem to recall and bonafide emergencies in the last 6 months

We're going to be trying to pantry challenge Feb, Mar, and April. We need to get the truck fixed, the car tagged, and a small loan from my mom paid back.

When we got our W-2's back this year, we were kinda in shock over how much we made last year. It was more than we'd ever made before, but we're not in a hugely better situation, and we want to change that.

We are going to grow a bigger garden this year and try to both put up and sell some of our "abundance".

I am going to try to do better in the grocery area. I am also going to try to rein my DH in regarding spending too. He does not think that going out to eat is a luxury, he likens it to eating at home . Last night he came home and I was already cooking supper, the hamburger was browning in a pan and he said "I want to take you out to supper, we will go eat Mexican food." Ding Ding husband-notice the hamburger cooking-supper is already underway . His solution was "Oh, just finish browning it and then put it in the refrigerator and we can have it tomorrow". We did not go out and he had to eat at home but he was still complaining while he ate that he wanted to eat out.

I would also like to work on the utilities too, I think I can really lower the electric bill if I work on it.
