I have always had a problem with "Customer Profiling"
I refuse to give my phone numbers at retailers and get strange reactions from cashiers and have had them call management ......

Same here.  I've had to argue with them.... they say their system will look me up to send coupons... I say we're not in the system, my husband worked for the government and our number is unlisted... they say but everyone's in if you have a phone listing.... I say, trust me, we're not....       Ugh!

Scary reality aside, the little animation was still kind of funny.

When they ask for our phone number at the check out I always give them our area code and 555-5555. Most of the time they don't even realize it is not a real number. If the computer rejects the number I just tell them to put "no phone" in. I am not swapping my money and my personal information for their products.

I understand everyone's right & desire to privacy...
but when it comes to phone numbers... why hide it?
    They can get it anyway.

Put it this way... you say your phone number is unlisted from the phone book & internet white pages... I can still find it on the Internet.

So why worry so much when it's something that anyone can get ahold of anyway??
