Can a man take a woman's last name?

lol, great idea for a forum.

But don't start me on names. I just know that if my DH was standing here now he'd be rolling his eyes at this question and saying: "uh oh, don't get her started."

I see no reason why a man couldn't take a woman's name when they marry but by doing so he's really saying that he's part of his father-in-law's family by doing so.

Women don't have names. None of us do. When we marry, we change from using our father's family name to our husband's family name. Even if you decide not to take your husband's name when you marry you're just keeping your father's name instead. Why? Because women don't have names!

When I was at university, I wrote an assignment on this subject. LOL!! When I got married I wanted to keep my "maiden" name but as I married in Germnay, I was required by law to use my husband's name.

I'm hyphenated and use one, the other, and both. lol

I never really thought about it. I guess it's just "traditional" to take the husbands name.

I didn't want my DH to take my maiden name for I was sick of people mispronouncing and mispelling it! Although it was an option and he could have. That's really interesting Rhonda!
