Introducing another newbie
I answered these questions and thought I would post a copy of them here as well as where I answered them. I have spent a fair amount of time today surfing through this site and LOVE the feeling of community. I have never before participated in any sites like this - the web has always been about news and research for me - but I can feel connected here! There is lots I don't know about protocol, so please forgive me in advance if I screw up. I will do my best to get the hang of it quickly!
By the way, lots of abbreviations are unfamiliar to me. Is DH/DD/DS for dear husband/dear daughter/dear son? Is there a list of commonly used abbreviations that will help me understand what I read?
Thanks - and I am looking forward to making new friends here!
How did you hear about frugal village?
I read an article on the front page of the Midland Daily News (Midland, MI) that profiled Sara Noel and gave a brief background of the website. It sounded great and so I logged on and have so far loved it!
What interests you here?
I believe that most moms need to have a cheering section. Many of us do not live near our families of origin so we must be creative in finding those to encourage us. That seems to be part of the purpose of this site. I am interested in encouraging other moms, and certainly need my share of encouragement and accountability on a regular basis.
Do you know any other members here?
I do not believe I know any other members.
How many kids? Ages?
I have 3 sons. Jacob just turned 12 (3/22/93), David is 10 (8/26/94), and Aaron is 8 (8/2/96). Our first son Daniel died just before birth (3/13/92).
Tell us about yourself.
I am from Wisconsin but have lived in Midland, MI since marrying my husband in 1990. I have a bachelor's degree in elementary education, but have had almost all of my professional experience in early childhood education/day care. I was a director of a child care center until my kids began to arrive and I have been home (for the most part) since then. I went back to school in January 2002 and finished my Master of Education degree program in December 2003. I thought I would return to work, but decided to remain at home.
Do you own any pets?
We actually had a border collie mix named Packer (for the Green Bay Packers) until New Year's day, at which point he went to live with my parents in Wisconsin. We had him 4 years.
SAHM or Working mom?
I am an at-home mom, but I volunteer as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for abused/neglected kids who have been removed from their homes and are in the court system, and as a Disaster Action Team member with the American Red Cross. I also serve as co-chair of an advisory board for our public school district, as well as serving on another district committee. Finally, I am the chairman of the board for a local non-profit child care company with 10 centers. The volunteer work I do practically adds up to full-time employment hours (without pay or longterm commitment)!!
Married or single?
Married since June 1990 to Pat, who is a manager at a chemical company in our town.
Interests and hobbies?
I LOVE to read - almost anything, but I prefer fiction for relaxation. I also enjoy exercising and cooking. Lately I have been fairly busy with making our new house a home for our family.

Hi Becky, welcome to the village. There is a list of villiage acronyms on the left hand side of your page.
You can continue to use this site for research as there is a wealth of information in the threads here, and they go back for years.
Let us know if you need further assistance. I look forward to reading your posts. Have fun!
