Default Spinoff- Why did you name your kid(s)what you named them?

Thought it might be fun to share.

My dd is named after her great great grandmother (my Dad's paternal grandmother) and her paternal grandmother, sorta'. The middle name is a variation of DH's mother's name, spelled the Celtic way to give a nod to our (majority) Irish/english heritage.- Magdalena Cait.

Well...I wanted something a bit different. Not too out there but not so common. I got Damon from Damian and thought it sounded just what I was looking for!

Poor kid though....for the longest time he thought I actually invented it and he was the ONLY Damon around!

DS is named after (after waiting till the last minute IN the hospital, IN labor to decide) DH and my Brother. DS and DH have the same first name but different middle names. DS is Erick Edward

DD I was up to my ears frustrated with people bugging me (from the first trimester on) about what am I going to name the baby. I finally told them "Helen Fury" just to make em lemme alone. U knew i wasnted an older fashioned name for her that wasn's a "family name" so sticking with those same initials as i told people, she became Hannah Faith.

DS on the way was way harder to name because we again wanted a name that wasn't in the families. And i wanted a name that wasn't used alot too. So after searching books and online lists I heard the name Aiden and fell in love with it. DH had heard and fallen for the name Isaiah. Since I am the one who fills out the paperwork, I get to chose so he will be Aiden Isaiah.

    lol!
I love the name Aiden. I have know lots of male Aidens but I had a friend from HS named aiden and she was awesome. I wanted to name the last baby Kaiden. Dh didn't go for it

My oldest is a JR- explained. Kavis Maurice

The second one I wanted to name Kyler, but Hubby didn't like so we comprimised on Kevin Tyler.

We just got creative and fell in love with my oldest daughter's name Karisma and her middle name Kay is after my sister. Karisma Kay.

My mom actually suggested our youngest son's name. I was leaning toward Kendall, and she found Keylan. His middle name is after my father who went home to heaven when I was 16. Keylan Martin.

Our baby girl's name was just one we came across on the internet and liked. The poor kiddo has two middle names though to make both the grandmas happy Kiana Elizabeth Yvonne.

Oh, and the dog's name is Konan named after Conan the Destroyer. (hubby is a big arnold fan)

DD1 Roari Ki, On our honeymoon (already prenant) we actually came up with the name Aurora, and decided that we would shorten it to her "nickname" before someone else did.. We spelled it the way we did because of the Lion King movie coming out the same year..(Roar like a lion with an "i" as I always say.) Ki is from a guy thay I knew in college, obviously he shortened his name from Kyle to Ky, and I liked it.. If she were a HE the name would have been ROARY KY...Loved the name that much... My parents are still haunting me about it... They weren't too sure about it.. Now I cannot see her as a "Stephanie, Mary etc", she is definately a Roari......

Both sons, because their names were not in the family yet Craig Matthew, and Jared Daniel and when naming Jared, I wanted Seth and DH said that his full name would have sounded "too Biblical" to him... Excuse me but how much more Biblical can you get with the name of Jared? LOL... I liked Jared from the show "The Pretender", and I later realized that I grew up with a "Craig Matthew"... Stange world...

DD 2 was because "Valerie" was a name that we would be using for the boys-if they were girls... RaeAnn is our moms middle names... We changed the spelling to Valory because of the Iraq invasion happened about a month and a half before she was born and thought that having the word "Valor" in her name would be an interesting waqy to remind us of what happened around her birth.

Jacob Martin-- Jacob just because we liked it (later found out my dad had a wonderful cousin named that) and Martin is my dh's first name. He was going to be Jacob Amos for the longest time, until FIL mentioned that he thought boys should be named after their father.

Douglas Henry- Douglas is my dh's middle name, Henry was the name my grandfather used. My grandfather died about a week before I discovered I was pregnant. If I believed in reincarnation, I'd say we named him right.

Deana Mae- My grandmother's name was Velmadean. . . . . . a bit much for this day and age. . . . Everyone always called her Deanie though, so we named dd Deana and call her Deanie. Mae is my mom and dh's mom's middle names *whew*

ds, gregory michael, is named for a friend of ours and my dad. greg being our friend's first name, and micheal my dad's first name.
dd,sarah margaret is named for dh's grandmother and mother. sarah is his grandmother's first name though she goes by her middle name, and margaret is mil's middle name. after she was born and named, i found out that sarah is the name of my grandmother's sister that died when they were kids.
i wanted family names that weren't hard to pronouce or spell. i had a time growing up with teachers saying my name wrong and it's not that odd. but every year ont eh first day of school i had to tell the teacher how to say my name. and had one teacher that never said it right hte entire school year. just didn't want my kids having to put up with that.
but i do love the names y'all have given your kids. especailly Valory, that is really neat.

I wanted names that are not so common & I always loved the name Sara. So at first I was going with the name Sara Marie for my first born but then their dad told me what his mothers name was {Francisca Dora} & I knew that Francisca was it but I wanted a different middle name. Nadine was a name of a cousins friend who was a beautiful Indian girl.

Sara had to be my last baby {I wanted 4 kids} so I knew that this was my Sara. LeAnne is the name of a step aunt & her DD's middle name & it's real different which is what I like

We wanted names that were recognizable but unusual. Also, we're into alliteration. Somehow that led to the letter "I". So, we have all possible children named already (except for middle names).

Our oldest is Isabel Grace. We thought Isabel a beautiful name and a little less common than Isabella. Grace just has a lovely, old fashioned, religious conotation to us.

Our newest daughter is Ingrid Rose. Ingrid is familiar but unusual - no, she was not named after Ingrid Bergman - and Rose was a compromise. I wanted Sophia and dh wanted Alexandra. Those seemed to large a mouthful for a little baby so then dh wanted Wren but we finally agreed on Rose.

Should we have more children we like the names Isaac & Isaiah for boys. I love discussing names and their meanings!

    Alexa Nicloe
I had always like the name Alex for a girl. ThenI had heard Billy Joel and Christy Brinkly had a Dd named Alexa Rae. I wanted to name her Alexa Mae (Mae after my mother's mid name) My mom hated that name and got really mad and said she would be furious if we named her that.
Nicole because we liked the name.

There was a girl in my highschool named Ashley that I always admired. I didn't know her, I just thought she was pretty & athletic & smart....everything I wanted to be. & My sister's name is Michelle Leigh. Sooooo, I just kind-of switched it around......Ashleigh Michele.

Kennedy was just a name both DH & I could agree on. We wanted something Irish to "go with" our Irish last name. When I named Ashleigh, I didn't know that name was so popular, and I didn't want that to happen AGAIN, so we picked Kennedy. It was either that or Delaney. Marie is *my* middle name.........so we got Kennedy Marie. Turns out Kennedy was like, 75 or something on the list.

My vote was for Kieffer Kathrine, though. DH HATED it. (sigh)

If she were to be a boy I wanted Micheal Mayer & call him Mayer.......DH hated that, too. We came to agreement on Robert Harold....call him Bobby....after my dad & dh's dad.

I like unique but spellable and pronounceable names. I got to name both my kids. DH just wanted them to have his last name instead of mine, LOL.

My DD is Shanley Jewel - I got Shanley from a baby name book, it is Irish for "hero's child" and I told DH he was my hero for making me a Mommy, LOL. Jewel is my Mom's name.

My DS is Shade Allen - I got Shade from a tombstone and thought it sounded neat (I actually thought the deceased person was related to DH since they had the same last name, but it's a common last name where DH is from, which is where we were when I saw the tombstone, while visiting the grave of DH's younger brother.). Allen is the middle name of DH's younger brother who was accidentally shot & killed at 16. I figured since I honored my family by naming DD after my Mom, I would honor DH's family by using a name from his family for the next child.

Shade has a second middle name, which is my last name. I *almost* gave it to DD but I didn't, and now I wish I did. Live and learn.

Dd was named after her Great Grandma and Grandma (my Mom). Her Great Grandma was Catherine but I named her Katie.....just Katie, not short for Katherine and her middle name is Lee after my Mom's middle name.

Ds is Kyle Mathew......there is no family connection with the names at all. My dh is a II and I know his parents wanted us to name Kyle a III but I said NO WAY! He is definately a Kyle.
