Found out we have to move
DH is in the army, so you'd think this wouldn't be a surprise, but we just found out we're being posted to the base in Gagetown, New Brunswick. He's been in the army for 15 years, and the only other time we have moved is when they closed the base his battalion was at last year, and moved us two hours away. Now we'll being going halfway across the country!
The funny (as in, if I don't laugh, I'll cry) part is, we found out while we were on holidays, because we have to be there by May 15th! I guess it's a good thing we don't have a house to sell, but there's still a million things to do. DH & I are going out there on April 20th to see the house we will be living in, and to register the kids in school, and all those picky little details.
Well, I guess I can't say life is boring--it's always an adventure!

Awe, the joy's of being in the military.
I remember my sister and her DH having to move around the country due to new orders.
I hope the move goes well and you grow to like your new home.~*Michelle*~

Wow! I really hope you like your new home
You are very fortunate to have only moved once so far. I am on my 6th military post in 10 years.
9th apartment/house in the same time.
I am so ready to have something of our own, but we can't even think about putting roots down yet.
I am glad you get to go ahead of time to check it out. Try to go with an open mind and a smile! Always works for me
How are your children doing with the idea of the move?

Tracy, I wish you the best on your move. I'm sorry that you don't have more time to plan and pack though. Hopefully you will end up really liking it!

Good luck with your move! I have a friend whose son is with the military police in Gagetown and seems to really like it there.

Is the Army different in Canada? I remember moving no less than once every three to four years when i was a dependant. Is it common in Canadian military to stay on one post for such lengthy tours?
Wishing you a smooth and easy move!!~~ Missy ~~

It can't be easy when being "told" to move. I think it's tough enough when it's your own idea. I hope you get all the kinks worked out and get moved and settled in as soon as possible. One more good thing about moving....it's a great motivation for de-cluttering

Thanks for all the well wishes!
The kids are doing pretty good with the idea of moving. My 10 year old son was happy when he found out we'd be living close to his school, rather than the over 1 hour bus ride he has now!
The Canadian military doesn't tend to move you a lot, unless you have a specialized trade. DH is in the infantry, just a soldier, but the new base is a school, so he will be teaching there, which he really enjoys doing.
I'm actually surprised at the amount of stuff we have accumulated, since we just moved here 10 months ago, and we really decluttered before we got here. Just this morning, I threw out a full garbage bag, going through some stuff in my closet and bedroom!~Tracy~
