Thumbs up A huge weight off my shoulders

    (at least for now)

Remember all the problems I was posting about with our insurance reguarding Paige......well things are still totally screwed up to the point where we may not be able to add her to Joes policy until open enrollment starting Dec. 1 (that's not the weight being lifted though)

She is scheduled for her first set of immunizations in 2 weeks so I started remembering how I use to go to the health department when I was in college cause it was based on income. Well I e-mailed them a short version of our lack of insurance and asked them what it would cost to have the shots done there versus her pediatrician. Well (this is where the weight being lifted comes in to play) she said based on anyones income the highest they ever charge for the shots is $10 each......however on April 27th they are doing them for free at both locations from 8-5 and she told me to plan on bringing her in then. At least that is one bill we won't have to worry about paying for now.

Hopefully things will work out with the other insurance but if not, $10 a shot is a lot better then full price, plus office visit fees.

That's great. Whenever I know someone who is having trouble coming up with $ for vaccinations, I remind them to check with their couny health dept. People often don't realize what they can do for them.

I had a friend that alway's takes her kids there. Her insurance deductible was sky high so for her it was alway's cheaper for her to go to the health department for immunizations instead of having to pay the deductible, the office visit and the percentage that wasn't covered.

I'm glad I remembered it and looked into it today. I would have been kicking myself if I had gone and chanced paying full price knowing that I could get them for free this time and only pay $10 each next time.

That's how we do our kids shots here too. Also there is a clinic set up here all by volunteer physicians that we go to, when it's open for check ups...but they don't see infants there. So we still have to get a pediatrician for Aiden.

that is a bit of good news. It's nice to know that there are still savings to be found for such an important issue.

We were able to take advantage of the health clinic and low cost shots when our kids were babies too. It's nuts to pay 4 times the price for the same shot. Glad you found out about it Kat.

Good news Kat. It's impoortant to get her covered with these shots and it looks like you're getting an excellent deal. We have free baby immunizations here too.

    Her new photo is lovely.
