Default Whew... I'm glad this week is over! (vent)

Our state surveyors (inspectors) showed up this week at work for our annual survey.  (I work in a nursing home.)  They brought along a not-so-nice surprise... FEDERAL surveyors.  We've never had them come before, and let me tell you, it was not fun at all.  I worked 35+ hours in just the last four days, as opposed to my usual 12 hours per week.  Lots of paperwork, meetings, and late evening brainstorming sessions later, our survey actually came out pretty well.  We had five minor defecencies cited... and the average in our area is usually 3-10 per survey.

To anyone who works in a nursing home:   we were under threat of an immediate jeapordy tag.   for something that was very minor.   We have never had a bad survey there, let alone something that would warrant this.  Everyone was in shock-- and it was one of the longest weeks of my life!

And for those of you outside of the health care field...  it would probably take me longer to explain it than you would ever want to read.    We were in serious trouble, with threats of $35,000+ fines and/or other penalties, but we fixed it.

So, today I woke up at 6:45am, and couldn't get back to sleep.  It's gray, cold, and SNOWING-- and two days ago the air conditioner was on at work because it was in the 80's.    This afternoon we're going to an open house at my favorite candle store and maybe a small flea market at the local high school.... beyond that, I have nothing planned.  DD is sleeping in, DH is at work, I need to do a lot of housecleaning since I've been gone all week, and I'm drained.

I think I'll play in the village until DD wakes up....

Oh my goodness, I can soooo relate to that! I am also an RN (besides being a bank teller - better hours) and I have lived thru those Federal surveyors before! Try to get some rest and relax!

I used to work in a nursing home and we used to hate it when they'd come, everything had to be just so. I understand why they do it & am glad they do but it's tension city while they are there.
Glad it's over & you all made out ok.

I understand why they do that, and I know that it is very stressful when they come. I have a friend that works in a nursing home.

Unfortunately, a lot of those places need the inspections desperately. There are a lot of horror stories out there...and the elderly are very vulnerable. Staff is not always nice to them And some of those places are scary, nasty, dirty

I can relate, we have JACHO surveys at the hospital and it is mass chaos when they come. We have always done well, but we always have had advance notice they were coming, and as of this year that has changed, they can show up unannounced now, so I guess we will see how we do during this next one.

I am sorry you had such a hard week, I hope you have a relaxing weekend.

UGH. That sounds like a truly stressful week!

I know that working in a NAEYC certified daycare in the past, when re-cert time came along, it was stress city! Everything has to be just "so" and people can get crazy.

    Hugs and get some rest!

Thanks, all.  I spent yesterday doing almost nothing so I suppose I am sufficiently recovered, lol.

Good luck! Our surveys (nursing homes) are always unannounced.  We have a "window" when our annual review is due- 9-15 months after the last one.  But, they can also walk in any time if they've had a complaint, so really, it's any time of year.
