Hi Hollyhandi
He has another year of school left after this June. We hope he can get some work for July &Aug. I have a job teaching ESL students for July and Aug.
But we are essentially living off of Student loans/bursuries and hopefully scholarships.....
We've had more than our share of Murphey's visits here too.
I just don't spend anything. I pay what bills I can and food. That's it.
To the children I just say NO, NO, NO......It does get exhausting.
But it sure does make us appreciative when something comes our way......
For instance my 13 year old is on a weekend Church Youth trip to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity. There is no cost for this weekend because our youth group is being "hosted" by the church in the resort town they are visiting. I can't wait to hear all about it when she gets home.
My son spent the day at a cubaree (also free) and had a blast.
My youngest and I when to the town parade (also free) and she recieved free helium balloons and lots of candy (tossed from the floats) so she was thrilled.
Then I went to the town homeshow (free) and recieved lots of free samples (including 10 free samples of dog and cat food!) and I entered every free raffle.
So all my children and I had a great time today at NO cost.
Admittedly there aren't many days like this but when they do happen we certainly relish them.
I would love your support and friendship to help get through the long difficult periods and to share the occaisional joys.
Thank-you
Rosi

Rosi, what part of Canada do you live in? If you don't feel comfortable saying on this post, pm if you'd like.
I'm in Canada too.

You got it Rosi,
You can Pm me anytime . I try to check in here 2 or 3 times a day. ( if the kids don't take over the computer)
There are not many things around here that are free to do or go see.
seems when there is we don't have gas.
We are splurging this week getting our fishing licences so we can fish on the weekends.
Doug and I love to fish and so does my DS and his GF so we
are planning on quite a few trips to the fishing hole 1 and 1/2 miles from us.
I'll make up sandwiches and take ice tea for them and water for me and we'll enjoy the day fishing and being together.

That sounds wonderful! My children and husband love to fish too. In Canada if you are under 16 you don't need a license and we usually get my Dh a license for fathers day. Freshwater is $15 and he brings home so many trout and Kokanee so it is a real deal. Saltwater is an additional $15 and he might get it in the fall when the Salmon start running if a friend takes him, because he doesn't have any gear for saltwater. We would like to rig up a smoker so that we can make smoked salmon, yum.
We have so many places around us for fishing so we are very blessed. Everyone around here takes fishing forgranted......My poor Dh won't beable to go until school is finished the end of this month. I am sure he is counting the days!

Thats how it is here to. Under 16 you don't need a license to fish.
Kenny turned 16 in Feb.
His GF is still 15 until Oct.
Doug and Kenny would love living where they could trout fish all the time. None of us like Salmon.
We will do alot of fishing and picnics this summer.
I need to find a way to make some money this summer .
We do have the front garden tilled now and will re till again today. Now need to get the back garden done and add on
more.
Will pick up some lettuce and pesa today to plant somewhere.

How do you plan to make some money? Any ideas? How big is your garden?
I will be making money doing some tutoring and hosting exchange students. The summer months are a good time for that there is a lot of demand at that time.
We have 2 acres but most of it is forested. I do have some small garden areas which I have gradually made fertile (we are on solid CLAY! ) by adding horse manure. I have planted potatoes (small german ones given to me by a friend from church, they were brought here by her father 50 years ago!
I have also planted more stawberry plants (given to me by another friend).
I also helped a friend do her seeding in her greenhouse in exchange for extra plants later.....
Have you ever had smoked salmon (barbequed) evryone on the west coast LOVES it. It isn't lox it is different......mmmm.

Hi Rosi,
Hoping to get my raised beds started this year and sell herbs and veggies from a produce stand out front.
I will have a few garage sales and sell cakes and cookies
cupcakes etc.
I also will do up some crafts ( wreaths and other things )
I am going to send you a PM.
I am not much of a fish person so even BBQed salmon does not sound inteesting to me. Sorry.
