    Default Q on loss leaders

    Hi,
I'm still a little confused on loss leaders. From what I understand they are the items a store is taking a hit on, but where do I find them? Are they advertised? Where in the store are they usually placed? I'm heading to Meijers tonight and was going to look for them . . .
    thanks
    Mandi

I find the easiest way to find loss leaders is to look at the grocery store flyers that come in the newspaper or mail. They are the ones that are on the front page of the flyer. Sometimes you will find some at the back of the flyer.

I also find in the store they will most often be at the back of the store. They want you to walk through the store to get them. Its a clever technique to get you into the store. Us frugal gurus know what they are and we don't get swayed by other things.

Shoppers Drug Mart has tuna on for 59ยข a can. You can't find it any cheaper anywhere in the city where I have to shop. It was advertised on the front page and it was at the back of the store.

Good luck!! Loss leaders are great if you use them.

Another thing that will help you down the road is to keep a price book. If you know what a "good"price is, you could recognize it - even if it's advertised.

I don't do one as I keep a running total of what things should cost in my area in my head, but I have heard of many women who keep one on the basics and it saves them $$$ and helps them stock up for a much lower price.
