Hi! This looks like a great site! I'm Jan. I used to teach in the public school system, but then I realized that I wanted to be a full-time mommy. We financed our house on TWO incomes and then I had my epiphany and quit my job to stay home with my son. Now we have two children. I've been home for two years and it's been a challenge financially but it's soooo worth it. (I wasn't make that much as a teacher anyway. My money was pretty much just going to daycare and work-related costs.)
We are trying to be more frugal. I use cloth diapers (the fancy ones called Fuzzibunz). We don't have cable tv. We cook from scratch (which I love doing). We don't go out to eat like we used to. We no longer purchase music CD's and DVD's. We're just trying to eliminate extra costs. Our biggest challenge is our mortgage. We don't want to downsize. We love our house and would like to stay here.
Anyway, I'm here to learn more about being frugal. We feel like the oddballs because the people in our families spend, spend, spend and are always calling us and asking us to go out to dinner. Geesh! You'd think they'd get the picture that we're trying to be frugal!

Jan, as my own personal financial guru Dave Ramsey ( www.daveramsey.com ) says, if your friends think you are nuts, you are on the right track!

Love you user name- I am a very AP mom, too. We financed our house on two incomes and then I cut back to 15 evening hours a week (just enough to have the privilege of buying $380 worth of healthcare for DD and I each month) so DD would never be in daycare, so I get where you are coming from, as do many other people here.
Welcome!
