Casey update
I had lunch with Casey and her mother yesterday. I had a quitet chat with her and found that she is over the shock of going back to hospital and is determined to get better. I told her that everyone had sent their love and best wishes and she loved hearing that. She asked me to thank you all.
Diane said that the doctor told her that she should look into the legal aspect of the crash immediately. He said that if she had coverage from a future settlement, he'd be able to treat her privately at a local clinic instead of her having to be admitted to the public hospital. We decided that it would be the best thing for Casey to start legal proceedings now, rather than later, which is what we'd decided to do. We wanted to get Casey well and walking before we bothered with anything else but it looks like she'll get better care and treatment if she's financially covered for the wide range of treatment it looks like she'll need.
I thought Casey would go back to hospital today but she has to wait until there's a bed available and they don't know when that will be. Hopefully we can engage legal counsel today (Monday) and they'll cover all her expenses immediately. I told Diane that Casey really should start her intensive physiotherapy immediately and that if she can't get into hospital today then DH and I will help pay for private treatment until she gets full coverage. We've got the phone numbers of a few lawyers who specialise in personal damage law and she'll phone them this morning. She'll also phone the doctor and tell him that if Casey can't get a bed at the hospital today, to start her at the private clinic immediately and that we'll pay for the treatment.
I bought Casey a pair of purple ugg boots because she can't feel her feet and everytime I touched them, they were freezing. She wore the boots yesterday and said they were very comfy, but I don't think she can feel them on her feet. Anyhow, at least her feet were nice and warm when I checked them during the afternoon.
Just one more sad thing. The doctor told Casey that when she was discharged from hospital she was assessed as being a "3" on a list of 1 - 5, with 5 being the best. He said he believed they got it wrong and that she was barely a "2". He also said that he doubted she would return to 100% fit and the best assessment he could give was that she'd be around 80% of what she was before. Casey wants to prove him wrong.

Good for her, I like her fighting temperment!
I agree, it sounds like legal proceedings now are in her best interest. You and hubby are sweeties to provide if the legalities don't come right through.
Thanks for the update Rhonda, I think of her daily.~~ Dee ~~

Rhonda,
I'm glad she's feeling more optimistic about things. It has to be so difficult.
I'm so happy she has loving and caring people surrounding her while she goes through all of this. Hoping you can get through the legalities smoothly.
Go Casey! Prove them all wrong.

Rhonda, I'm so happy to hear Casey is fighting, that's a girl!!
What a wonderful offer you and your DH have made....what a special couple you are.
They are lucky to have you in their lives for all your care and concern.
I had to smile about the boots.....you know, it's the little things like that that are going to make her more comfortable and feel at home and loved. ((hugs)) to you for being so thoughtful. Made me think....the few times I've been overnight I've felt so much better in my old flannel nightie rather than the crinkly hospital gowns.
I am continuing to keep Casey in my prayers.

Rhonda, you and your dh are wonderful for offering to help out Casey get the best treatment. I'm also glad to hear Casey is determined now. No matter what happens if her attitude is right she will come out of this more than 100% better even if the physical is only 80%. I'll be praying for her!

I am sorry to hear that things are not better for Casey. Thank you Rhonda (and dh) for stepping up and helping with the treatment costs. Things like the booties will help her feel loved and special.

I will keep Casey in my prayers.

I am glad she wants to prove the dr. wrong!
I hope the legal proceedings help move things along for Casey. I think she needs the best treatment available. It is wonderful of you and your DH to want to help pay for her private care until then.~*Michelle*~

Here's hoping the legalities go quickly and Casey gets the care she needs, when she needs it. I'm also hoping that she's able to bounce back b/c of her youth and strength and determination.
Still thinking of her Rhonda.
