    Default Awesome family weekend

Big J and I had planned to take this weekend away just the two of us. But our sitter backed out, and I would have lost my deposit if I had cancelled, so we decided to make it a family outing.

We didn't tell the girls, just had everything packed and in the car when we picked DD#1 up from school. They were SOOOO excited.

Our hotel room looked right out on the Oconaluftee River ( we went to Cherokee, NC). There was a little walk by the river, and the ducks came right to our porch.

Sat. we got up and took the girls to Santas Land. I ended up having to ride the Rudicoaster about 10 times because the safety bar wouldn't close over Big J's belly!

I rode the ferrise wheel once with my eyes closed! DD#1 kept saying open your eyes MOmmy - and I said No way!. DH took the rest of the ferris wheel rides. We went to the magic show and DD#2 got to go on stage and help. Santa is there year round and DD#2 ran up and hugged him.

We then shopped a little. We got a free pass to the gold mine and we went and did that. DD#2 got a HUGE amethyst which was cool.

Sun. we got up and went into Gatlinburg to the aquarium. We stopped at Newfound Gap and took the girls pictures on the Appalachian Trail. We had a ball at the aquarium. Then we stopped and played mini-golf and headed home.

It was a really nice weekend.

Sounds like so much fun! I have happy memories of my parents doing stuff like this with us when I was young. A surprise get-away always seems like more exciting & fun for kids. Glad you had a good time!

Sorry the babysitter backed out, but sounds like you made the best of it.
