Default When life hands you lemons, what can you do,

    but make lemonade?

DH and I have decided not to buy another car until the fall. It is going to be hard on us, since there is no grocery store in walking distance, but DH would just go to work early a few days a week so I can get to work on time and we can save up money to buy another.

Right after we decidedthat , my parents sent us a note saying they would put their old car (Mom just bought a new SUV last week) back on the road and insure it for us (which we will pay for) for a few weeks until they get the title. It isn't in perfect shape (has a very small leak in the gas tank, at the very top, which is only a problem if you fill it completely full. The mechanic said it wasn't worth it to fix it as it would cost a fortune and won't creat a problem if the tank is kept at 3/4 or less) but it looks brand new since somebody hit it a few months ago, and they got it all fixed up and repainted then.

We also decided to cut back on some of the things we have/use that aren't necessities- extra channels on the satellite, XM radios, etc. It isn't a lot but will add up.

Hopefully his job will be fine (his boss is acting like it will be, but as I said in the save PBS post, it is really hard to tell around there) and in a few months, this will all be a bad memory.

Sounds like a good plan Kimberly. Hope that new market comes to the old Great American soon, prob will be a while though. Will be nice for you when /if it does go in there, you'll be able to pull a wagon to & fro like I used to do in my old neighborhood.

Is something actually moving in there? I am so out of the loop!! I kept hoping maybe Aldis or Save-a-lot would move in- it is just the right size for one of them. Do you know what is going to move in there?

You two are doing a great job working together to figure out the best solution for your family. Being able to do that makes any problems easier. Good for you!

And as you point out, in a few months this will all be just a bad memory. My dad would call it a "character building experience". LOL!

In the Journal a few weeks or so ago they mentioned Gabriels (small supermarket, they have one in Scotia & Rotterdam) and some professional offices, can't remember what else. Going to be a 2 story deal. Still working on details I guess.Found this online, don't forget to read related stories.http://www.capitalnews9.com/content/...86&SecID=6

I know that store- pass it on my way to work. I didn't realize they had more than one store. As much as I need a discount store more, I would rather have a locally owned store. Thanks for posting the info, Darlene- we don't get the Journal. I should ask Cathy where she hides it at the library and start reading it, I guess. Certainly can't afford a sub now!

Glad to help out. Really will be nice if they come in there, especially if they have it like the one in Scotia. They have a nice deli and most of their meats are really good (don't like their sausage, lol).Specials on certain days too. This is their site and if you click specials you'll see what I'm talking about as far as they go. http://www.gabfoods.com/about-gabriels.html

That's a great attitude, Kimber. I'll toast you both with my glass of lemonade. I've been with my DH for over 30 years and looking back over those years I've come to realise that it was during periods of difficulty that we grew closer and stronger. I'm sure that will be the same for you and your DH.

You'll do just fine with your upbeat attitude.

Darlene and Kimberly, my dsil lives in the same area as you. I hope to visit sometime. She just moved there from NYC, last summer. Dh visited last December and fell in love with your neck of the woods.

Sounds like a great plan Kim. I know you 2...I mean 3 will make it through this. You have a great attitude about it. Glad your mom is willing to help you out.
