Hello From Ontario...
Howdy.
I came across this site after nosing around the Google directory for "frugality". I was looking for a homemade detergent recipe... actually only because I was almost out of detergent and wondered if there was something simple I could replace it with! Of course, there wasn't - I had to buy washing soda and borax - but I made it and it's great.
Anyway, I'm 30 years old, I live in an apartment with my significant other, no kiddies or pets, and I work part time a few nights a week. Honey works full time.
I consider my hobbies to be "making stuff." I love cooking, I brew my own beer, and I'm getting a kick out making detergent and stuff. It's fun to be creative *and* save a few bucks.
I love being frugal. We have no car - we both work within walking distance from home. No cable TV, no magazine subscriptions, zero debt, and no expenses that we don't really appreciate for their value. We are free to splurge on things we really, really want. My rule of thumb is be cheap 95% of the time, so you have the freedom the other 5% of the time.
I'm so cheap, I hate throwing away pickle juice!
Looking forward to exchanging ideas.
Kristine, one flippin' cheap geek.

Thanks, all.
If you're interested in homebrewing, this is the best site to read about it: John Palmer's How To Brew. Here in Canada, a case of beer runs $25 for crappy beer. Good beer is at least $30-35. I make 5 gallons (2.5 cases) for less than $25.
I knew someone would give me something. That's useful too. If you drink pickle juice it will keep your calf muscle from having a spasm.
That's handy because I often get foot cramps if I'm exercising in the heat. Thanks for the tip!

Hubby used to home brew until the price of ingredients went way up.(that was about 15 years ago) Still have all the stuff in the basement to brew. (bottles, syphon, hydrometer (?) etc)
Maybe when he's retired he'll get back into it.
What kind do you like to make?
