I picked up a snake as a child thinking it was a stick. It wrapped itself around my hand, and I've not been able to get over my fear of snakes since.

here's one of em by my stump stand outside my laundry room door. i sent a pic to the herpotological society here and they said it is a terrestial garter snake, eats slugs (great...i have slugs too then! ) and earthworms. Not to be alarmed they are harmless. kind of neat checkerboard pattern on them. I don't care, i think they can just move along down the road.

just think of them as big lizards without legs.
They'll eat up all your bugs and maybe a few mice too. I'm glad you're safe, missy.
