oh, my best friend growing up was a red head and she use to burn like crazy if she didn't put on sunscreen. We use to go to the beach together every year and she would almost alway's leave burnt.
Glad it's starting to feel better. The last time I had a bad sunburn I didn't even want to sleep with clothes touching me, let alone sheets.

Ouch, so sorry to hear about this! I am very fair w/ blue eyes (although no red hair) and I seem to burn nearly instantly. My sisters both tan every summer and they like to tease me about being so pale but I say I'd rather be white than lobster red. I haven't had a really bad burn in awhile but I remember the pain all to well so I'm sending you some aloe/cooling

I can relate with you. I have red hair and burn real easy.... I've had sun posioning and heat stroke. Thats no fun...... I don't like sunburns. But baking soda paste helps cool your skin down..
FernYes I'm out of my mind. It's a dark and scary place in there.

fern...what is sun poisioning?
I know this burn is bad...I have blisters! and today I started itching like crazy...I've been putting lotion on and sprayed some Johnson and johnson baby oil mist on...that seemed to help a lot.
My sister teases me to about being so white. She's always "Off to the tanning bed" begging me to go with her. I just can't torture myself like that on purpose.Well,I guess I did saturday huh.

I wouldn't use anything oil based on a sun burn. This is coming from another fellow fair-skinned, blue-eyed redhead

Pure Aloe Vera gel is really really good. I think they make a kind that has a sort of numbing agent in it to take the sting out of the burn. Although, if you were burned on Sat/Sun, and 3 days later are still sore, I would probably see the dr to make sure it's not too bad.
We went to Six Flags a couple of weeks ago, and I got a sunburn too....And I HAD sunscreen on! 48SPF! Time to switch brands, I guess. My skin is just now getting over the peeling part.
I still can't believe I burned. I haven't gotten a sunburn in YEARS! because I'm always vigilant with the sunscreen.
ETA: Ibuprofen is really good at taking the inflammation down too

Oh Tammy, I have had many sunburns too and with blisters! Ouch that hurts. If they are large blisters, please go to the doctor, he can prescribe a zinc oxide that will really help, I've been there! Or just use pure aloe vera gel, you can find it in any pharmacy and Tylenol for the pain. Do Not put anything on that is oily or doesn't soak into the skin, it is much worse getting it off!
If it is still burning, just wet some dish towels and lay them on the worst areas, change as needed. It will help pull the heat out.
If you are still in pain and it still hurts to the touch, you have a pretty bad one and I suggest going to the doctors. You can get ill from a bad sunburn.
{{{Tammy}}} Hope you feel tons better soon!

Tammy, I'd give you a hug but I think it would hurt you too much!
Maybe you have sun poisoning? That would explain the blisters. Ouch.
I try to be very careful about the sunscreen for both myself and DD, for a couple reasons. One is that there is a strong family history of skin cancer. (And I have classis Irish coloring- very fair skin and dark hair, so I burn pretty easily.) Another is simply that I want to look younger than I am. LOL
I buy lots of different kinds of ss- lotions, gels, sprays, sticks so I have a lot to choose from. It just makes it nicer to be able to pick out what you feel like using and then it isn't such a chore.
Hope you are feeling better soon. The last bad burn I got was when I was snorkeling so long in the Carribbean that my ss wore off, and I got a burn even through the t-shirt I was wearing to snorkle (because I knew I was going to get burned otherwise.) In my experience, tylenol and time are the only things that make any real difference.
Oh, wait, I just remembered there is a product on the market called Tender's After-Burn aloe gel. It has lidocaine hydrochloride in it for pain relief. I've not used it myself, but I recall my BIL (who wanted to get a tan but ended up with a very bad burn) using mine several times last summer vacation. I don't know where you can buy it- I get mine from the pharmacy at work (a hospital.) Wish you were closer- I have a bottle in my hand right now I'd give you. I'd be happy to send you some for future use....

I'm always telling everyone I know about the best sunburn remedy that we (the fair haired nordics) have found at our house. And lemme tell ya from years of going boating and having a swimming pool we've had a few burns (BBaaaaddd ones). Are you ready? Be fair warned, it doesn't smell so well and it's greasy so you'll need to wear old clothing and be sure to use old sheets on your bed b/c you really need to slather it on at bedtime.....................

Preparation H! (works, will sometimes even prevent blisters.....put it on as soon as you realize you're burned)
The off brand works just as well
If you don't believe it works, use it on one side and use your "regular" remedy on the other.

This is what I was told when I got sun posioning. Cool showers baking soda, I also have used aloe vera straight from the plant. Sun posioning is the blisters. I know I got very sick. I hope you feel better

OUCH! I would also recommend putting aloe vera gel on the burn. It will help it heal faster and soothe it.

Tammy hope it improves soon.
I can't stress enough how important it is to use sunscreen. Dh has skin cancer and his specialist told him it is the fastest growing cancer anywhere. Also, its one of the fast growing cancers of teenagers.
