    Default Attn Everyone, scam alert

Joe was checking his bank account last night and there were 2 charges on there for $9.95 one said from SimpleEscapes and the other said AtHomeRewards neither of which he signed up for. He looked up simple escapes and this is some info he got:

It's a little hard to say just what Simple Escapes is, although it is apparently connected with the infamous MemberWorks. AOL subscribers are particularly susceptible to finding mysterious Simple Escapes charges on their credit card bills, as are Classmates.com members.

Here are just a few of the 135 complaints we've received about Simple Escapes as of March 2005.
and here is the web page where we found this info at:

    http://consumeraffairs.com/online/simple_escapes.html

and here is where they tell you what you should do:

    http://consumeraffairs.com/scam_alerts/mwi_do.html

reading some of the complaints it looks like we were lucky that it was just $10 seeing as there was one person that was charged
    almost $153.

The funny thing is we had a free trial to AOL but that was over with about a year ago, and we are both on classmates.com but never got the paid service so our account info wasn't on there.

Just thought I would give you a heads up so if you see this on your bank or credit card statements you will have some idea of how to go about correcting the situation.

AOL itself has been guilty of calling and signing people up for stuff they didn't want. Been a victim of them several times. They sign you up for extraneous services other than internet.

Once, they signed me up for long distance service! Oh, yeah, that was a trip. Three months worth. We had to threaten to sue them because they said they couldn't take the charges off and couldn't stop charging us because it was set up in the computer.

Our bank helped us in fixing the problem. Along with the federal trade commission.
